Does 28 Market Place appear on Coleford photos (General)
Hi to all just found this site from someone in roots web.
Can anyone help there are two photos in the galery of Colford post cards may be. My Great Grandmother named Annie Sophie Rawlings was born in Coleford 1865, her father John Mansell Rawlings was mentioned in Kellys directory 1870 as a painter/glazier. Now in the 1881 census Annie Rawlings was a servant for a Jewellery shop 28 Market Place my question is does No 28 Market Place appear on either of the pictures.
28 Market Place
If you use Google Maps - and use 'the walking man' symbol
28 Market Place Coleford, is now Puchinis (tea rooms) - GL16 8AE - it is on the corner of Market Street and Bank Street - by traffic lights. You can see the King's Head Hotel - straight ahead in the next road.
The Old photograph of Coleford on FOD photo's does have the King's Head Hotel on it. The shop is to the left on corner - and can be seen (today it's just further along after the Angel Hotel).
The building is exactly the same 'shape' today with a frontage 'jutting out' and above two storey's each with 2 windows..
