Census labels (reply)

Thank you slowhands.

I did read the description of the enumeration district, but it didn't mean much to me. Hopefully with the link to the map you gave and the information you supplied I might be able to work it out.

Many thanks

Census labels (reply)

By 1871 Edmunds widow Letitia was working as a Charwomen and living at 22 Whitecroft and John Worgan was living at 23. I'm assuming these are not the homes and there was nothing left after debts were paid.

just an observation

Whitecroft is the area/village being "gathered" by the Census "agents"

The numbers 22 / 23/ 24 refer to a schedule entry/dwelling unit - this may be a house, or as often the case, a part property occupied by a family. At 26 Charles Raffles is a Beer House Keeper.

Sometimes with the census forms we can get a notion of where the dwelling might be by "landmarks" such as Inns or public houses...

best I can find is schedule 41 a few pages on lists 2 Police Constables - (although I think the station was at Parkend)
and at entry 85 is the "Miners Arms Inn" under Henry Phillips.

My instinct is that the dwellings are one of the rows of cottages to the north of the Railway station and Miners Arms https://maps.nls.uk/view/120756932

In 1874 the main part of the village of Whitecroft including Parkhill had 116 houses with a population of 610.

hope this helps

Names of Beneficiaries and Others in the WIll (reply)

Hi, not sure if I should start a new thread but would anyone know how I could find the actual address where Edmund was living when he died? Or where/when he bought land and built two homes.
Would his death certificate have his actual residence, as his burial record just states Pillowell.
It would seem on his death that he was living in one of the houses he owned, and John Morgan was living in the other. As in his will he states 'the dwelling in which I now reside and part of my garden about twenty perch to be used to pay all debts' etc. John later went on to marry Edmunds daughter Rosetta.
By 1871 Edmunds widow Letitia was working as a Charwomen and living at 22 Whitecroft and John Worgan was living at 23. I'm assuming these are not the homes and there was nothing left after debts were paid.

Thanks Mary

FLETCHER Edmund: Whitecroft - Will 1870

People mentioned in a Will

Search for a list of people
http://www.forest-of-dean.net/wills/search_beneficiary.html

If you have found a Will of interest in the Index, make a note of the Will number and insert it in the form to bring up a list of all the people mentioned in that Will.

Note: only a proportion* of the Wills have so far had the names of the 'Beneficiaries and Others' extracted and put into the database, as more names are extracted the database will be updated.

* Currently we have completed Wills 1858-1892.
