Hi Terry
I don't belong to the Kear family, I am looking into who lived in my pub before it was a pub. I think the Kear family owned it for a number of years so I am trying to work out who came in between John in 1785 and James in 1837.
Sorry I don't have any more information.

THEY HAD A DAUGHTER ANNE BAP 11TH APRIL 1779 BREAM

MARRIED RICHARD JAMES 24TH OCTOBER 1803 NEWLAND BAP 15TH JULY 1778 NEWLAND

DO THESE CONNECT WITH YOUR TREE?

Lesson No 9 - Do not rely on spelling !

The census data was collected and written up by people who whilst educated , would spell names as they believed them to be (in the majority of cases).

Keep an open mind, Kear, Keare, Keer, Kere, Kier etc are variants you may see.

Just like MPG claims your spelling may vary !

Kear Family of Parkend

I am looking into the Kear family of Parkend in 1841, I have James and Harriet and the names of all their children but I am interested in going back to James's father and grandfather. In 1841 they were living in the Fountain Inn at Parkend and in 1785 the pub which was then a large house was sold to a John Keare, so I am trying to find if the two are related. It is possible the spelling of the surname was changed at some point and James dropped the 'e' from the end of his name. If anyone has any information on the family back then or anything about the house as it was before 1785 I would be very interested as I am the current Landlady of the pub and am researching the history of it residents.
