many thanks again, I may be lucky and find something to link thomas with his birth place.an odd thing went looking for books at a car boot and found a parish maazine for foulsham in norfolk where i'm looking for other ancesters inside found a bapt and death for one of mine sometimes lady luck is there cathy

does that mean their are no records or they havn't been checked yet?

It could be either of these, or they are all from outside the Forest

what was happening at that time to bring the two groups into the forest for work?

Agriculture, woodman or industry would seem to be the driver, Much Dewchurch is an argicultural area.

PS its about 15 - 20 miles from Dewstall to Newland so still pretty close :-)

many thanks slowhands,can I ask something? the records don't show many macklins or the family he married into the coburns, does that mean their are no records or they havn't been checked yet? if they don't belong to the forest of dean what was happening at that time to bring the two groups into the forest for work? any suggestions for finding thomas macklin, born 1779, married esther coburn 31 may 1819 newland, by banns, died 23 july 1831 res. whitecliff buried newland age 53 yrs, was a sawyer and labourer, children susan 1820 lydney, thomas 1822 parkend, william 1824 parkend, john 1827 clearwell, maria 1829 whitecliff, any advise on what to try next to find his birth place and other relatives would be much apprecated. thanks cathy

Hi again I have no real idea if there is or not the only unusual thing I know about the family is that he married in newland but his children married in the independent church monmouth and when his son william went to aust. he was part of setting up an independent church their. and the names william thomas henry charles have come down thru the family. cathy

sorry i forget to put in enough infomation thomas macklin born 1779 where ?? died 1831 forest of dean married hester coburn 1819 newland forest of dean he was 40 years old he was not a widower. I don't think he came from the area as there is a lack of macklins in any of the records. cathy

I noticed on one of the site marriage records a W C Macklin, Vicar of St Mary de Lode, Gloucester. Only trouble is that I've looked at so many records today I can't find it again to look at the year!
