Yorkley Photos/Info (General)
by Rachel Davis , Gloucester, UK, Friday, August 12, 2005, 07:00 (7050 days ago)
Hi, I'm looking for anyone that has photographs of Yorkley Baptist Church or the Royal Oak Inn at Yorkley - I don't believe that either of these buildings are still there (or at least not in their original form) but I stand to be corrected by those more knowledgeable than I!!
If anyone has any photos/pictures of these premises, I would be grateful for a copy - and will pay any expenses incurred.
Alternatively, if anyone has any information regarding these premises, I would also be grateful for that - if you can tell me what has happened to them, I'd really like that.

RE the Royal Oak Yorkley
www.gloucestershirepubs.co.uk gives the following info
The Royal Oak was almost opposite the George Inn. Now Royal Oak Cottage.
Landlords
1) 1939 Leonard Hy Lee
2) Edwin Brown who moved to the Bailey Inn
There is a photo listed for the George Inn but not the Royal Oak.
Hope this helps you.

Thanks for the info May - I've managed to obtain a photo of Royal Oak Cottage now too - which is ace.
My Mum's family (and therefore my family!) Appeared on the same census page as the Royal Oak in Yorkley(The next entry in fact) so I was trying to find out whereabouts they'd lived.
Thanks for your help, it's really appreciated

Hi
Just discovered this message board!!!
My ancestors and Great Uncles owned the Bailey, Whitesmiths Arms etc.
My great grandfather was Albert Brown m Elizabeth
His father was Edwin Brown B July 13 1845 m Harriet Morse.
I know Albert (I think it was him either that or Edwin!!) had a mining accident and was given compensation which enabled him to buy the Old Coach House (I think) - It has now been turned to a house. Albert had several sons and 2 daughters Gladys (my grandmother) and Annie who lived in Lydney.
I know they were married into the James'
I do have more info but dont go back further than Edwin
Sorry waffling a bit! Any info would be great - Many thanks
