Vaughan Family Ruardean (General)
by bertha, Monday, October 03, 2005, 04:15 (6998 days ago)
With all the photographs coming in lately, has anyone any photos of the Vaughan Family who lived at Ruardean?
My Great Grandfather was Absalom Vaughan, his wife was Elizabeth Vaughan, they lived at The Pludds, with their family.
I have a lot of information about them, but no photographs.
It would be nice to put faces to names.

Hi everybody. Nice to see this thread alive again. Still hoping to see some photographs of C19 Vaughans.
My thanks for picking up on Sarah Smart (new to me) and that wedding at Newland. That filled a gap.
Someone told me recently that the wonderfully named Hannah Jemimy was a BENNETT.

Reading this seemed to link in with ....
48/21 Ruardean - 1812/13 - Fine (or Final Concord) made at Westminster in 52nd year of reign of George III, recording sale of property by John and Elizabeth Bennett, George and Mary Ferrett to Joseph Harper.
Written on parchment. £18
http://www.ancestordocs.co.uk/Gloucestershire.htm
It may be that if John Bennett died in 1811 his son sold his property in 1812/13. I guess that Mary Ferrett may have been the daughter/ sister ?
Also at the same web site I saw...
48/22 Ruardean - 1809/10 - Fine (or Final Concord) made at Westminster in 49th year of reign of George III, recording sale of property by William and Hannah Jemima Vaughan to John and Mary Jones .
Matching purchasers and sellers copies on parchment. £36
Hope this helps someone.

I was interesed in WINNIE CRADDOCK and note that my ancestral relative ELIZABETH MORGAN married into this family (I acknowledge this web-site for much of the baptismal and marriage data on which I have based this family history):

There is a Genealogical Database on Gloucester Record Office web site:
http://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/genealogy/Search.aspx
A search produces this entry:
Year Surname Forename Gender Parish Reference Occupation Catalog
1812 bennett john U ruardean 1812/ 58 coalminer Wills 1801 - 1858
This page: http://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=1335
gives information on the database and instructions on how to obtain copies of Wills etc.
There are a number of entries in names of VAUGHAN, BENNETT and TERRETT.

Under the Burials part 2 there is a William Henry Vaughan
William Henry Vaughan died 20th April 1859 age 35 - a sudden death. In the 1841 Census there is an entry for a William Henry Vaughan as a patient in Bristol Infirmary, he was age 15 at the time.
William had married Mary Ann Owen from Caldecott. They had 3 Children
Mary Ann, Sarah Ann and William Henry Vaughan. Mary Ann remarried one Alfred Nicholas and had more Children and in time moved back to Cinderford. Some of these children also emigrated to America.
William Henry Vaughan was my Great Grandfather, he married Julia Hewlett daughter of Samuel Hewlett of Bradley Hill, and they went to America. Julia stayed in America and we are still looking and trying to trace her movements. I have identified her daughter Jewel's marriage to one Burrell Frazier.
William Henry returned to England and re-marries Eva Jones and we pick the family up again in the 1901 Census. One William and Julia's children born in Illionis was Fanny Louisa Vaughan she married my Grandfather Frank Burt from Somerset.
and I could go on.
So much information and so much more to find out. So if anyone can fill in some gaps it would be much appreciated.
