Extracts from Bygone Carnivals of Ruardean

In 1987 Jayne Wallace produced this booklet as a fund raiser for the then
up-and-coming Ruardean Carnival. It starts off from what appears to be the
first documented Ruardean & District Flower Show in 1906 and goes through to
1987.

As well as describing what went on at the Carnivals, it mentions hundreds of
people who were involved in some way with the Carnivals over the years. It
is compelling reading for anybody whose family was living in the Ruardean
area during those times. Even if your family did not come from the Ruardean
area you will find it fascinating reading as it will give you an insight into
Carnival life which was a very common happening each year in many towns and
villages in the early 1900s.

Many thanks to Jayne Wallace who must have spent many hours compiling and
producing the original booklet and for giving us permission to re-produce it
so everybody can read it. A special mention to Heather Nash whose original of
the booklet the details were copied from and to her daughter Gillian
Macmillan who kindly typed all the contents so I could convert it into a PDF
document for you to download and read.

Enjoy
