We have now transcribed 1,000 of the Forest of Dean Inquests held at the Gloucestershire Archives covering the years 1868 to 1886. Amongst these are 22 JONE'S, 15 MORGAN'S, 13 ROBERT'S and 26 UNKNOWN'S.

These UNKNOWN persons inquests should not be ignored when searching for what your ancestors might have been doing in the 19th century as they also contain some of the 14000 other names recorded(searchable as ATTENDEES). These people were variously DOCTORS, POLICEMEN, MINE OWNERS, WITNESSES and JURORS, some of whom were noted as being unable to write.

Under the current 75 year access rule there are approx. another 1500 inquests to transcribe which will take us up to 1932. There is one more volume covering the years 1932-1942, but we will have to wait until 1st Jan 2018 to start on those!

A Special thanks to both David Drinkwater and the assistance of
Debbie Kyte for transcribing these records for us all to read.
