James HARRIS 1827 Newland/Clearwell Grocer/Farmer/Publican

slowhands,

We have a burial listed for a James Yearsley dated September 19, 1754 in Monmouth. There is a memoranda stating in Latin or in old English stating "carrior dyed in ye Spoute". While looking into the meaning of 'ye Spoute' I came across Spout Farm in Newland (now a heritage building) owned by a 'James Harris'.

Have you come across this term before?

We have a connection between the Yearsley's, Harris's and Burghams/Burgum's that we are investigating and this Harris seems to be a key via his foundry business with the Burghams and his connection (or his fathers) to 'ye Spoute'.

Tx.
