Dobbs in Whitecroft / Coleford / St Briavels (General)

I am researching my husband's Dobbs ancestors in the Forest of Dean. His ggg grandfather, William Dobbs, was born in Whitecroft in 1800/1801. He married Rosanna (maiden surname as yet unknown) born 1801/1802 in Whitchurch, Herefordshire. Between 1821 and 1833 they had 5 children, three of whom gave census birthplaces in the Forest of Dean, as follows: John born between 1821 and 1826; George born 1826/1827 in St Briavels; Henry born 1827 in Coleford or St Briavels; Eliza born 1828/1829; and James born 1832/1833 in St Briavels. In the late 1830s / early 1840s the family moved to Trevethin in Monmouthshire, where William worked as a haulier.

I should be grateful for any information about this family that others may have.

Many thanks to Bertha and Slowhands for their kind responses. I should have made it clear in my original post that I have the census data on this family from 1841 to 1871 (and 1881 to 1901 for some of the 9 children). I am now trying to find the births of the oldest children - John, George, Henry, Eliza and James Dobbs - in the Forest of Dean in the period 1821 to 1833. I am also seeking the marriage of their parents, William Dobbs and Rosannah (maiden surname unknown).

Hi Slowhands. Thanks for the links to previous Dobbs threads. The family I am researching had moved to Wales by 1841, so I have no way of linking them to the Forest of Dean census data. I am hoping to get in a visit to the Gloucestershire Record Office soon, to try and find them in the parish registers.

Hi Terry. Thanks for your post. The family I am researching had a rather earlier link to the Forest of Dean - pre 1841. I don't at present know how they relate to other Dobbs families in the area.
