Richard Nelms b abt 1819 West Dean (General)

by BonnieNelms, Monday, February 20, 2006, 16:53 (6868 days ago)

Hello,
I'm looking for a birth record for my GGG Grandfather Richard Nelms. I'm hoping to find his fathers name. His mothers first name was Mary b 1797. I have every census report back to 1851. I'm also waiting to receive a marriage record I ordered on Richard married 1841 Monmouth reg dist. I had to order it blind and I'm hoping it will be the right one. His wife was Elizabeth b abt 1826 and she died before 1861. Richard and his sons and grandsons were colliers and coalminers. His son John b Dec 9 1846 immigrated to the US in the early 1800's. I found him and his family in many census here (I'm in Pennsylvania USA)
I'm thrilled that a Forest of Dean site exists!

Hi Bonnie

You say you have every census report back to 1851 - how old does it say he was in 1851?

The closest I could find were as follows:
Richard Nelmes c. 2 Oct 1814 Little Dean to Richard Nelmes and Mary and
Richard Nelmes c. 27 May 1828 Lydney to Richard Nelmes and Mary.

Joanne.

Richard Nelms b abt 1819 West Dean

by BonnieNelms, Tuesday, February 21, 2006, 03:50 (6868 days ago) @ Joanne

Hello Joanne,

I'm looking at the original document and 32 years old is written for Richard and wife Elizabeth is 25. West Dean District 5l ref HO 107/2444.
In the 1861 census at East Dean RG 9/1755 he is 46 a widower living with his Mom and one son John b 1846. There is a difference in the age for Richard I expected but I've seen this kind of thing before. I can't tell what date the census was taken in 1861 or in any uk census. I can only hope it's the same family.
I've kept note on the other Richards you mentioned incase of other relationships such as cousins.
What do you think?

Hello again,
I can be dense sometimes... the record you found about Richard and Mary at Little Dean with son Richard b 1814. It is possible that it's the record I've been looking for. Where did you find that?
Thank You and
Kindest Regards
Bonita

Thank You a million times!

I finally understand the relationship I have to the Baldwyn family. Most joyous for me is I know my GGGG Grandfather's name was John. Would you believe I have a copy of the marriage between Richard and Elizabeth and I thought it wasn't the right one.
Thank You Slowhands - Have a wonderous holiday season!
