I am the coordinator of the Forest of Dean transcription project. I thought you might be interested to know that two of us are planning to visit the Gloucester Record Office next week and take digital images of the Newland baptism registers from 1813 - 1901. I shall then be distributing them to the volunteers for transcribing, and eventually in a few weeks time the results will appear on this website. Why not volunteer to help!!

As you will see from the above the parish registers are held at the Gloucester Record Office.

Hi Graham

That sounds brill to me!

I don't mind doing a bit of transcribing for you. As long as it's not too technical!!:)

Hello Graham, I am researching the Watts family who lived in Whitecliff from the early 1800s through to the next century. John Watts operated a pottery in Whitecliff which was close to the Nags Head Inn and also close to the National School. John Watts (b. 1788) his son also John (born 1820) operated the pottery in the early 1800s and carried on until about 1880 or thereabouts. John Jnr. had a daughter, Lucy, who emigrated to Australia with her husband Enoch Herbert Drew in 1884 from whom I am descended!
The pottery was apparently a fairly large concern and in 1851 employed about 16 men and some boys. The Watts family seemed to live on site so there must have been living quarters attached to the pottery. I would be extremely grateful if you could supply any nformation about the Watts family.
Cheers from Oz, Carmel Boyle

Thank you Slowhands, for the information this time and previously. I have most of the information you have posted but of course, always wanting more, which seems hard to come by. I'll keep checking the Board.

Thanks for replying Terry.

I am in the middle of transcribing the baptism registers and I know some people are doing all the others, so with a bit of luck they'll all be on here shortly! :)
