Mary Rudge 1841 Ruardean (General)

Hi

Im intrigued by a marriage entry on members page.
Joseph Blanch and Mary Rudge Nov 1841.
Both are widowed and Marys dads name was George Griffiths.

As I am very interested in Joseph Blanch born circa 1812 and Mary Griffiths born circa 1822 Ruardean- and their child Jacob Griffiths born circa 1845 Ruardean, I need to confirm that the 1841 marriage is between 2 different people(or maybe not?)

Can anyone tell me whether there is a MARY RUDGE 1841 census Ruardean and if so whats the info on her.
Also is there a Jospeh Blanch born circa 1791 on 1841 census.

Putting 2 and 2 together and maybe making 6, im thinking maybe the 1841 marriage is this couple on 1851 census.

1851
Joseph Blanch abt 1791 Ruardean, Gloucestershire, England Head Ruardean Gloucestershire
View Record Mary Blanch abt 1796 Mitcheldean, Gloucestershire, England Wife Ruardean Gloucestershire

Any thoughts welcome as always.

Hi Mike

Thats a great help actually.
I know I havent got evidence but the pieces fit.
I believe the 1841 marriage not to be "my" Mary and Joseph but to be the older couple on 1851 census.
It also fits in with a court record I saw on Glos Records office site where Mary Blanch wife of Joseph was imprisoned for assault in 1833/4, I now believe this will have been his first wife Mary Knight.

It appears my Mary Griffiths and Joseph Blanch are another couple altogether.

Thanks for putting my mind at rest.

Roll on ancestry 1841 census which will hopefully confirm all of this, and more besides:)

carol,

Have checked the 1841 census and found 2 Mary Rudge entries for Ruardean 1 married the other single aged 45 address says "street"

Her occupation is shown as Shop Keeper

2 entries for Joseph Blanch

Ruardean

Joseph B Blanch aged 25 Quarryman

Others listed above him in same household? are

Cornelius Blanch 25 Quarryman
Ester 30
Tom 6
Emma 4
Pricilla 1

The other Joseph is listed at Newmans Bottom Dean Forest aged 45 and a Collier
looks like he is on his own.

Hope thats of some use

Perfect!

By 1851 the "other" Joseph Blanch is a grocer which would fit in with marrying mary Rudge the shopkeeper, and when he married her nov 1841 he was a collier.

Many thanks

The Ruardean Baptism registers show:

12 May 1804 Joseph son of Samuel/Esther Blanch aged 14 years

12 April 1812 Joseph son of Samuel/Sophia Blanch

25 September 1820 Mary dau of Giles/Sarah Griffiths

19 January 1823 Mary dau of Giles/Sarah Griffiths

I believe these are two different families.

Hi Graham
Thanks for the baptism info.
I believe I know who my Mary is - 1822- and by getting her little brothers birth cert- Giles 1840 I know that her mam and dad were Giles Griffiths and Sarah Morgan. Im not sure about the other Mary 1820, maybe she was an older Mary who died or perhaps the "other" Giles Griffiths and Sarah? also had a Mary who was maybe married by 1841- or moved away.

As for Joseph I believe its the Joseph Blanch 1812 who is the father of my Marys kids, he was unmarried 1841 and by 1851 Mary Griffiths had 3 kids and was in Ross workhouse and Joseph was married, however this is really guesswork and I cant think of a way to get evidence.

It is certainly fun looking at these families and the BMD info now being put on this site is fantastic!
