Thankyou. That is very interesting as Elijah's son Samuel had the middle name AVERILL (as did his son Herbert), which I had struggled to explain before. Samuel and his family eventually moved to Darlington (via Kensington), where "The first Head of the Darlington School of Art at the Mechanics Institute was Samuel Elton whose house, the present no 21 [Westbrook Villas]was built for him in 1865. His pictures are in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and in the Bowes Museum." - from the Westbrook Villas website. Herbert, a surveyor, eventually became a Colonel (honorary) in the Royal Engineers and was awarded an OBE for work during WWI.
