Elizabeth Metcalf(e) (General)

by willow, Saturday, May 20, 2006, 04:33 (6754 days ago)

I seem to be running circles with this family

I've started tracing the maternal branches as I've hit a brickwall with my male line.

My great grandfather was John Ireland he married Elizabeth Metcalf(e)
12th Sept 1876
father listed as Isaac Metcalf a tinman on marriage cert, witness Mary Metcalf

I have her here on the 1871 census as Betsey

Susan Hoult abt 1815 Dudley, Staffordshire, England Mother Newland Gloucestershire
Betsey Metcalfe abt 1858 Chepstow, Monmouthshire, Wales Daughter Newland Gloucestershire
Isaac Metcalfe abt 1824 Cornwall, Gloucestershire, England Head Newland Gloucestershire
Mary Metcalfe abt 1827 Coleford, Gloucestershire, England Wife Newland Gloucestershire
Susan Metcalfe abt 1867 Coleford, Gloucestershire, England Daughter Newland Gloucestershire
William Metcalfe abt 1855 Chepstow, Monmouthshire, Wales

I can't seem to find them prior to 1871, I don't know if its me , too much overload with families or if they are just eluding me

If anyone can help I'd appreciate it

thanks slowhands, with so many variations of spellings I can see why I couldnt locate them.

Now to track them all onwards, looks like they were travelling types tinkers and tinmen.

thanks appreciate your help

Wills

so many variations of spellings

The 1861 transcription IMHO leaves a little to be desired , and the 1841 for that matter, something to do with haste I suspect !

Hi Willow,

Are you still researching the Metcalf's?

I'm researching my Grand Uncle Absalom Metcalf 1894. William Metcalf 1856 - 1919 was my great grandfather. (Makes me look old)

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a public Ancestry Tree called "The Metcalf's.

Regards,

Gerry Metcalf
