John Williams, Alvington and Yorkley (General)
I am a new member and I am looking for descendants of John Williams.
John was born 1832 in Alvington. He married Catherine Morgan at All Saints Newland in 1853 and had twelve children. They moved to Yorkley after 1853 until 1868 and then moved to Staffordshire where my wife's great grandfather was married, never to return to the Forest of Dean. In about 1879 they returned to Yorkley and John worked at the New Fancy Mine. John was friendly with the mine owner Thomas Hedges Deakin until John died. Caroline died in 1900 but John Williams lived until the age of 88 and died at Rose Cottage (next to the Post Office) in 1921. Four sons Jim, Richard, Albert and Fred attended the funeral as did his daughter Edith Harper (married Thomas Harper)and another daughter Mrs Goodier. Two grandsons are listed by name, Fred and Phil Williams, in the newspaper report of the funeral and these couls still be alive I would like to hear from any descendants of John's children or any one who knows more about this family.
