Morgan, Gazzard (General)

by Margaret, Wednesday, April 06, 2005, 14:00 (7179 days ago)

I am trying to find information on James Morgan and wife Matilda? They were the parents of Sydney James Morgan b 1854 in Pope's Hill, other children were William and Winter. I particularly want to know Matilda's maiden name.

Samuel Gazzard born 1826 in Rangeworthy and who lived in Cinderford. Have info from censuses from 1851. I woud like to find the names of his parents.

Gazzard - Tytherington Rangeworthy&Red Lion Inn Flaxley

by Eandka @, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Tuesday, July 19, 2005, 16:41 (7075 days ago) @ slowhands

» 1871 Flaxley #7 Flaxley Rd. Red Lion Inn

I'd like to make a small correction to the age of Elizabeth GAZZARD in the above. She is not age 10, but 10 months (Apr-June, 1870). Elizabeth and her husband, James LANDER, formerly of Painswick, were the parents of my auntie Amy, born 1900 in Littledean.

Janetta remarried to John MILLWATER, July-Sept 1875. What is left of the family along with a new daughter Rose Gazzard, is on the LDS census as John and Janetta MILLMAKERS, 4 Flaxley Rd.

(Sorry, I neglected to record the census reference numbers for 1871 and 1881.)

The family can also be found at: RG9/1755/91/16, sch. 112, mistranscribed as Garard.

Does anyone know anything about the Red Lion Inn in Flaxley? Janetta and both husbands, and later (1901) Catherine's husband , George Evans, were the innkeepers there. (Catherine was in a lunatic asslym in 1901.) Does anybody know about this family after 1901? Eandka

Red Lion, 44 Flaxley Street

The Red Lion Inn was situated in a quiet residential backwater just to the east of Cinderford town centre. It was first licensed in 1869. The annual rateable value of £18 in 1891 and 1903 reflect its status as a back street local. The pub has now been converted into residential usage. It is a sandstone and brick small terraced building and all the original doors and windows have since been replaced by double glazing. On the wall, however, is a filled in hole where a West Country Ales plaque was once located. It closed in the 1970's.

To reply to my own post, I have found the information on the Red Lion from posts made in Feb. 2005, while searching around to find where my first post went. I have also corrected my notes with regards to which George was the innkeeper in 1901 (George Gazzard). George Evans and children were two doors down and I misread the entry. I'd still like to know about the Gazzards post 1901. Thanks. Eandka
