Richard Walford and Charlotte from Kidderminster (General)
by andrew walford, South Wales, Friday, June 30, 2006, 15:03 (6713 days ago)
With the recent addition of the Drybrook baptisms I now know that my great x4 grandfather Richard Walford and second wife Charlotte were living in Lydbrook in 1828. I previously thought it was his three children by first wife Mary Coley, namely Thomas born abt 1805, Martha c 1812 and William c 1814 who had moved south. I now know that another three children were baptised at Drybrook in 1828, Samuel, Mary Ann and Henry. As these three appear to be living with elder brother Thomas at Lydbrook in 1841, I'm looking for the burial of Richard and Charlotte 1828-1841. There seems to be no record of them at Ruardean or English Bicknor so I was wondering what other churches are there in the Lydbrook area at this time?

Many thanks for the info, I have the burial of Charlotte in 1841, but it seems this is the wife of Thomas Walford born abt 1805, they are living together in 1841 and Thomas as a widower re-marries Elizabeth James 25 December 1842 at Walford, Here'sh.
There are two Charlotte's, and three if I include my great x2 grandmother Charlotte Probert 1852-1926 who married Richard Walford 1841-1918, they are both buried in Lydbrook baptist chapel.

Charlotte Probert married Richard Walford at Walford, Here's 18 June 1870. Not to be confused with Richard's grandfather Richard Walford who married Charlotte Matthews at Halesowen, Worcs in 1818 before they moved to Kidderminster and then Lydbrook.
Charlotte Probert was born at Lydbrook 5 November 1852, the daughter of James Probert, a carpenter and Ann Grace Edison who married at Walford 9 March 1841. James and Ann Grace left Walford and moved to Lydbrook between 1841 and 1844.
James Probert was born in Bridstow, Here's 9 July 1809. He was the son of David Probert, a farmer and Catherine Ravenhall who were married at Bridstow 29 November 1808.
David Probert was c 17 April 1774 at Walford, Here's. He was the son of Daniel Probert and Sarah. Daniel and Sarah are possibly Daniel Probert and Sarah Baynham who married at Weston Under Penyard, Here's 9 May 1773.
Daniel Probert was c 1739 at Walford, Here's. He was the son of David Probert.

During your researches have you come across a Harriett Mary Walford born about 1873 who married Arthur Wilce at Lydbrook 13.9.1891 ? They had 15 children including Kate Iris Nora Wilce born 24.3.1908, she married a Bernard Marshall at Lydbrook 15.4.1939. My interest is with Bernard Marshall as he was born 11.6.1910, son of Oliver William Marshall & Lillie W Marfell.

Hi,
Harriet Mary Walford was born in 1873, she married Arthur Wilce 13 September 1891 at Lydbrook.
Her father was Frederick Walford who married Abia Stevens in 1872. Frederick was buried at Lydbrook 18 October 1877 age given as 22, he was actually 26! as he was on the 1851 census aged 3 months and named as Thomas Williams!
Frederick was the son of Thomas Williams and Martha Walford and some time after Thomas died, most likely in 1851, the family changed their name from Williams to Walford.
Martha Walford was c 3 April 1812 at Kidderminster, she was the daughter of Richard Walford and Mary Coley.

Hi Andrew
Thanks for the information. Although Harriett is connected to me rather than related, I have found it pays to record details of spouses siblings and parents as often these people inter relate. My connection is indicated on my previous posting in this thread. I have a great deal of information regarding the descendants of Arthur Wilce and Harriett and can email it to you if you would like. Please make contact via the email link if you are interested.

This Richard Walford is my 3x great grandfather, although I am descended from William Walford, one of the sons from his marriage to his first wife Mary Coley. I too have been unable to find much trace of Richard and his second wife Charlotte. I have been unable to find them on the 1841 census, and I have not been able to find Richard's death.
However, I obtained a copy of the death certificate for the Charlotte Walford who died in 1841. The certificate states that the date of death was 13th November 1841 at Lydbrook, Charlotte was 43 years of age at the date of death and she was the wife of Richard Walford, Tailor. The informant was Thomas Walford.
Not sure this moves things any further forward!
