by Tony Harrison @, Hertfordshire, Tuesday, July 18, 2006, 10:43 (6695 days ago)

I have a Joseph Birt who married Betty Jones daughter of Richard Jones and on 28.4.1796 They baptised four girls Elizabeth 1799, Mary 1800 Harriot 1804, Mary Ann 1804 the 3 latter died within one year of their Birth IGI
Two Questions
1. Can anyone throw any light on Joseph Birt
2. Are the parish records for Awre on line or can I purchase microfiche from anywhere.

This entry from GFHS Burial Index suggests the family may have moved to Bristol:
Date: 31 DEC 1815
First Name: JOSEPH RICHARD JONES
Surname: BIRT
Age: 1
Burial Register: AWRE 1813-1860
Place of Abode: BRISTOL

Hi Michael
Thank you very much for the information on Joseph Richard Jones Birt I have his christening at St Phillip and Jacob in Bristol 5th February 1815 but did not have a burial for him. I know from IGI that 3 previous children were buried at Awre namely Harriot, Mary and Mary Ann.
I wonder if you would be so kind as to see if Joseph and Betty Birt returned to Awre for burial

The index for Awre covers period 1813-1860 and neither Joseph nor Betty are listed.

Tony,

The Awre fiche are on order and should be with us in 2 or 3 weeks time. If you would like to help with the transcription get in touch.

It seems that some of the later records are still held at the church.

Hi Graham
Sorry I cannot help with transcription at present. I have to use a reader at someone elses home. I noticed you were doing this project and perhaps you could let me know if I can buy copies of the Fiche
