Prudence Bullock, Longhope (General)
I found Prudence on the 1851 census and she was in prison only a young girl, but she died a couple of years later. She came from Longhope as did my Bullock descendants, although she isnt on my family tree can anyone tell me about her.

Prudence Bullock, Longhope
Hi Julie,
Prudence Bullock was the sister of my Great Great grandmother Charlotte Bullock.
She was the daughter of Samuel Bullock and Ann Williams.
It seems she had a pretty wretched life. Her mother died of Typhus Fever in 1840. She is in the 1841 census at home with her family age 8.
In the 1851 Census she is shown as a prisoner at the Little dean's 'House of Corrections'. I haven't been able to find out what she was incarcerated for, but I hope to get an answer next time I'm over in England.
She died from starvation on 23rd December, 1851 after the relieving officer neglected to give her food. She was unable to work after receiving a foot injury in the harvest fields in September 1851 and her Doctor wrote an order for food and other necessaries. Too ill to walk, she traveled 4 miles on her injured foot to the workhouse and Richard White, the relieving officer refused to supply the articles. She slowly starved to death over the next 3 months.
Richard White was charged with Manslaughter and committed to Gloucester jail to await trial. I have a few newspaper articles of the time which report White's committal, but I have been unable to find any record of the trial.
I hope this helps give you a little insight into the short life of Prudence.
Bev..,
