TINGLE and BRADLEY Littledean (General)

by Nigel Hunt @, Monday, August 21, 2006, 02:38 (6661 days ago)

I am trying to trace the ancestors of my great great great grandfather Matthew George Tingle born Littledean about 1813, baptised at Littledean Wood and who maried Amelia Bradley born Ruardean 24th Aug 1800. Amelia was a widower having previosuly been maried to John Morgan on 6th Feb 1821, but who died on 14 Apr 1835.

I think Matthew's parents were called George and Elizabeth, whilst Amelia's parents were William and ? Betty.

With thanks

by slowhands @, proud of his ancient Dean Forest roots, Monday, August 21, 2006, 02:58 (6661 days ago) @ Nigel Hunt

Amelia married John MORGAN (he died Apr. 16, 1835 at Ruardean, age 40) and
had a family of about six children.

Amelia's second marriage was to Matthew TINGLE (b. 1813, Little Dean, GLOS,
Eng.) son of George and Elizabeth TINGLE. Their children were Clara, Jane,
George (b. 1845 at Little Dean) and John.

TINGLE and BRADLEY Littledean

Nigel, I note that you mentioned that Amelia Bradley Morgan Tingle's first husband, John Morgan, died on 14 April 1835. His burial date was 16 April. Do you have information regarding when, where or how he died? If you do I would be more than grateful to have a lead on this elusive ancestor of mine.
Kind regards,
Don Davis

Amelia Bradley:

Amelia married a miner called John Morgan, who was killed in a mining accident in FOD. She then married Matthew Tingle in 1836 and moved to Aberdare, Wales. Matthew was also killed in a mining accident in 1850, probably along with one of the sons from her first marriage. Matthew was badly burnt in Firedamp explosion in Colliery. Subject of court case for manslaughter against attending doctor. The 1851 Census shows Amelia living at Cwmbach, Aberdare on Powell Row with her children Hannah, William (13), Clara (9), Jane (7), George (6) and John (2.)Clearly, life got too difficult for her and she then moved into Bedwellty Workhouse at Georgetown, Tredegar, Monmouthshire were she died in 1974. Cause of death was softening of the brain and epileptic fits.

I realise that I am replying to an old posting, hopefully there may be new data which will answer my points below
I am researching Matthew TINGLE and would like to accept that he is the son of George TINGLE however there are a few discrepancies in this post which I am seeking to resolve
-in accounts of the mine accident in which Matthew died in 1850 his age is given as 35 which would suggest a year of birth of 1815 as opposed to 1813 given in this post
- the Baptism given in 1813 at Little Dean Independents does not appear in the Parish record transcripts on this site
- Matthew and Amelia married in 1836, a year before the introduction of mandatory registration, by which time many parishes had adopted registers in line with the coming legislation which included the recording of parents; yet the transcript on this site makes no mention of parents.

I'd be interested in any feedback on the above
