Members Area - Searching (General)

by leigh, Monday, August 28, 2006, 11:22 (6654 days ago)

Hi
Wonder if any one can help. I have tried several times to gain access to the parish records in the members area ( I have joined and have all the activation details), but when i come to do a search it tells me that I have used an unauthorised form.

Could some one please tell me
1) What I should enter when I am searching I.e. name, the press entre, is this the specified keyword?
2) what does "++" and "&&" supposed to represent?
3) What is the the comma meant to do?

Sorry if this sounds like a very stupid questions

Members Area FAQ
http://www.forest-of-dean.net/members_faq.html

This FAQ, short for Frequently Asked Questions, is a compilation of the most
common questions asked about the Members Area.

If after you have thoroughly read the FAQ on the Help page, done all that is
suggested and you still have not resolved the problem, send us a message to us
via the "Contact Us" form. Make sure you mention that it is the Members Area you
are having difficulties with and give a very detailed description of the
problem. It is difficult to advise, if you just tell us it is 'not working' or
'I can't log in'.

Search Expressions

by admin ⌂, Forest of Dean, Tuesday, August 29, 2006, 22:05 (6653 days ago) @ leigh

In most instances all you need to insert in the search box would be the surname
of the person you are looking for. The surname you enter is the the "keyword"
and all the records that contain (anywhere in the record) that keyword will be
displayed.

The "++" and "&&" represent search expressions. Not a subject that can be fully
explained in a few lines, take a look at the following web page which explains it
all in detail.

Thanks for the reply on the board, just to let you know that I sent a message to you with all the details 2 days ago.

I have done everything that your FAQ's have stated allowed cookies, disabled the firewall and still nothig.

error message states that I am using an unauthorised form?
even when I went to e-mail you from that page I got 'there was an error' message.

So am puzzled as to why I can't access the members area.

Firewall blocking the sending of referrer information

Your email was answered at the same time yesterday as I posted the above reply
to you. As I am in a different time zone to yourself and depending upon my other
commitments, a day or so can go by before you receive a reply.

If your e-mail program moves spam e-mails to a folder other than your inbox,
check there first. Many programs do this - giving you an opportunity to recover
'false positives' and 'whitelist' the address for future use. Check your spam
system documentation, or help system with your ISP. You need to allow mail from
the forest-of-dean.net to get through.

If you are getting the same error message when using the contact form, this
confirms that your firewall is possibly causing the problem, this I wrote to you
about. As you have not received that email I will copy the contents below.

If you have managed to log in successfully and you are getting the error message
when actually doing a search, it is almost certain that you have a firewall
blocking the sending of referrer information and that is causing the problem.

You mentioned you followed the link about this problem but you never mentioned
if you did anything further with the settings you have with your firewall. There
are plenty of instructions on the internet of how to make forest-of-dean.net a
trusted web site. If you type "referrer information" into one of the search
engines and you will come up with many pages addressing the problem.

If you do have a firewall installed and you are still having difficulties you
should be able to email or phone the software company for assistance.

Hope you manage to sort it all out. Let me know how you go with it.
