Royal Oak Inn, Drybrook (General)

by Jakesdad @, Wednesday, April 01, 2015, 17:58 (3542 days ago)

Hi
Does anyone have any early photographs of the above Inn and, especially the proprietors prior to 1923, William and Catherine Heaven, who were my great grand parents?
If so, I should very much like copies.
Thanks

There is a photograph on this website at: http://www.forest-of-dean.net/gallery/drybrook/pages/page_13.html

You will also find information on the pub at http://www.gloucestershirepubs.co.uk. Search Drybrook and go to Page 9

The census doesn't name the Hotel, just Drybrook

By using the Advance Search for baptisms at Drybrook : occupation of father Inn Keeper etc - there are various surnames going backwards even further..

Since submitting my earlier response I have been comparing photographs on this site and Gloucestershire Pubs and am not certain that they are one and the same. However if you look at this photo:
http://www.forest-of-dean.net/gallery/drybrook/pages/page_12.html
there is no doubt and it would appear that the photo was taken at the time William Heaven was landlord.

Thanks for your information.
I do have a copy of the 1911 census and the photos from FODFH but I am particularly trying to find more photographs.
Thanks again for your interest.

Hi Mike
Thanks for taking the time to respond.
Having looked carefully at the two photographs, I am not sure that i agree with your view that they are not the same. The building is now an hairdressers and, despite a different camera angle, I believe they are one and the same building.
I am hoping to find further photographs, hopefully, including the landlords, my great grand parents.
Thanks again.
