I have no idea if there will be a link, but in the photo archive here is a William Bamford among the team members of Redbrook Football team with my grandfather William "Billy" Beach. My grandfather was born 1885 and this Bamford was probably born around the same time. They both worked in the Redbrook Tinplate works, and I grew up in nearby Wyesham with the family of one of his sons.

Hi Tim, Gerald Bamford is my brother in law and I have been researching his family on his behalf.
In the 1901 census George & Mary Bamford have 5 children at home George 17, a tin plate worker, William 13, Sissy 10, Sydney 7 and Victoria 3. (George 17, is Gerry's grandfather).
There is an older brother Richard James Bamford who is working in Pontypool, also in tin plate.
Between 1901 & 1911 George also moves to Pontypool where he met Agnes Crane (tin plate worker).. they married in 1903 and had Phillis (1904), Dorothy Irene (1909), James George (1910)... who is Gerry's father and Beatrice (1917). George's family were all brought up in Pontypool but now live in Spain, Germany & Norfolk.
Richard James Bamford (known as James) died in 1908.
William Bamford (13 in 1901) appears in many photographs on the Forest of Dean site, mainly as a young footballer.
In the 1911 census George senior is 55, a ganger on the GWR, wife Mary is 54 and living with them are William 23, Sidney 17, May 13, Mary Ann 8 and Ernest, a grandson aged 10 months.... I am assuming Victoria is then known as May.
Do you have any knowledge of the members of the family who stayed in the Forest of Dean? Seems like that was the point when they became split. Also do you have any photographs dating back to this period? Thanks for getting in touch. Jim

Hello Jim
Really enjoying this!
My grandmother was known to the close family as May.
You are missing two additional siblings Frances & Ellen Elizabeth (Bessie). Mary Ann was known as Polly.
I remember as a young child going to Bessie's funeral, coffin in the front room, I was terrified!
Whereabouts is Gerry? I'd love to be in contact.
Also Dad had an illegitimate cousin , Joe Bamford, who was a similar age to Dad
Keep in touch .... Does Gerry have email?

Thanks for the extra info... I saw Francis 1882 and Elizabeth 1886 in the 1891 census but not in the 1901 so wasn't sure whether they were still around or had left home by then... send me your email and I'll forward some images I got off the internet.
Gerry is now in Norwich... who is Joe Bamford the son of? Jim

Hi
Joe was always talked about in hushed tones
The product of an affair between one of the girls , not my grandmother and Bill Wigmore
who was the husband of Bessie...... a big scandal at the time..... not for public knowledge!!! Could it have been the other missing one??
Joe married the heiress to the Danish Bacon Company always had expensive cars, he visited my grandparents on occasions
Is Gerry fit and well?
