He lives probably in the same house in Hillersland near the Rock Inn with his family until sometime in the 1870's working as a carpenter, in 1881 he is listed as a grocer. After his wife dies he may move a few doors away but now in his eighties he is listed as a Grocer working on his own account with his daughter Florence (Smith) living and working with him.
