Moses B.C. BRAIN, WW2 Soldier, Lydbrook. (General)

by Jefff @, West London, Middlesex, Thursday, February 23, 2017, 01:26 (2840 days ago)

Apologies for posting 2 days later than planned.

To my surprise I stumbled upon this online auction the day after writing about Moses Brain of Ruardean. The auction is for a particularly interesting set of WW2 Service Medals as issued to another Moses Brain, this time from nearby Lydbrook. The seller is Gloucester-based and of apparently good local repute, having been mentioned on this forum in the past. I have no connection whatsoever with the seller or the auction items, I do not collect Medals so won't be bidding, but I hope Admin agree this item is of interest to the Forum.

The Medals were issued to Moses B.C. Brain of Bell Hill, Central Lydbrook, Glos.
They're being sold along with associated letters and a Gloster cap badge.
Hopefully someone with access to Military Records etc can confirm I have the correct man.

From FreeBMD;

Surname First name(s) Mother/Spouse/Age District Vol Page
Births Mar 1920 (>99%)
Brain Moses B C Fluck Ross 6a 1082

Ancestry Death Index confirms he died in 2009. I looked this up during Monday's free access, but sadly then lost my records, I think he was still living in Lydbrook.

I cannot find any Marriage record for Mr Brain.

Think this is his parents;

So no surprise that, a few months later, Moses' son Bertie named his own son Moses...

====

With the names being so commonplace in the Ruardean area, I've not yet worked-out which, if any, of this forum's prior threads are directly linked to this line.

I do hope these Medals can stay within the Brain family.
