AARON HALE - confusion (General)

by karencoupe123 @, Wednesday, March 01, 2017, 15:16 (2833 days ago)

Hello,
I am very confused with regard to the Hales in my tree.
Id like to start with my Great Great Grandmother Mary Hale b)1839, baptised 1840 Christchurch, abode Lane End, Coleford.
Siblings of Mary,
Caroline b) 1825
Thomas b)1829, baptised 1840 Christchurch age 11, abode Lane End, Coleford.
Elizabeth b) 1831, baptised 1840 Christchurch age 9, abode Lane End, Coleford.
Henry b) 1835, baptised 1840 Christchurch age 5, abode Lane End, Coleford.
George b) 1838, baptised 1840 Christchurch age 3, abode Lane End, Coleford.
PARENTS of the above being THOMAS HALE and ANN BROWN.
THOMAS married ANN BROWN 1824 Newland.
THOMAS was born 1793/4 Newland (my 3 x great grandfather)
Siblings of Thomas
Susan b) 1786
Henry b) 1789
Jane b) 1792
Molly b) 1796
William b)1799
Hannah b) 1801
Nancy b) 1803
Aaron b) 1805
PARENTS of the above being AARON HALE (b1765) and ELIZABETH EVANS.
AARON (b1765) married ELIZABETH EVANS 1786 Littledean.
This Aaron being my 4 x great grandfather.

This is where i get confused – I have my Aaron b)1765 and baptised Welsh Bricknor, parents being Aaron and Susannah More/Moor however there is another Aaron Hale born 1765 in Littledean his parents being Aaron and Ann Trigge. After years of having Aaron and Susannah as parents of my 4 x great grandfather im now having doubts. Could someone kindly tell me who are the correct parents of AARON HALE born 1765 and which of the two born that year are the right one for my tree?
appreciate any help, thank you in advance.
Karen

Aaron appears to have married Elizabeth Evans at Newland, not Littledean so the Aaron born in Welsh Bicknor would seem to be the logical one but not absolute proof.

There's a Aaron Hale that married Ann Balding in Littledean in 1787 which would look like a match for the other Aaron.

This might be worth following up

BNA Gloucester Journal - Saturday 13 August 1859

Gloucestershire Summer Assizes

HALE v VOICE

…….This was an action for ejectment to obtain possession of a house and garden at West Dean……….. the property in question……….was one of the encroachments which had been made previous to 1787 and as such might be purchased from the Crown for a small sum. Aaron Hale, the grandfather of the plaintiff, so purchased the property of the Crown in 1845 and it was duly conveyed to him. Thomas Hale, the plaintiff, was his grandson and was therefore the heir at law, and was entitled to this property. Mr Powell (for the defendant) contended that the property had been given to the defendant under a deed of gift from Aaron Hale, her father, and she, having had possession for 30 years, could not be dispossessed……………The jury found a verdict for the plaintiff.

The grandson could have been the 1829 Thomas and his grandfather the 1765 Aaron. The defendant, although not named here, might have been Thomas’s aunt. Maybe this one:-

Hello Karen,
Your posting made me revisit what I had previously thought about the ancestors of my 6g grandfather Moses Hale (1763 - 1855) brother of your Aaron.
Like you, I had their parents as Aaron and Susan. I've rechecked and am now convinced that they were the parents. I was confused because, within a few years, one child was baptised in Ruardean and two in Welsh Bicknor. I posted a question about regulations covering where a child was baptised and the replies confirmed that there could be good reasons why they swapped parishes. So here is my theory:
We know from his baptism in Welsh Bicknor on 23 January 1763 that Moses Hale was the son of Aaron and Susan Hale. There was another baptism in Welsh Bicknor on 10 February 1765 of Aaron, son of Aaron and Susan.
Prior to the baptisms in Welsh Bicknor, there was one in Ruardean of Henry Hale, son of Aaron and Susan, on 29 March 1761. Ruardean and Welsh Bicknor are about 5 miles apart on either side of the River Wye, less if there was a ferry in those days.
Prior to Henry’s baptism there was a marriage on 12 July 1760 in Ruardean of Aaron Hale to Susannah More so circumstantial evidence points to Aaron Hale and Susannah More being the parents of Moses, Henry and Aaron.
I have not found any more children of Aaron and Susan which would indicate that the burial in Ruardean of Aaron Hale on 2 March 1766 was most likely this Aaron; and that of Susan Hale on 25 June the following year being his widow.
So far I have not found a definite baptism for Aaron but if he was about 20 when he married, it would have been around 1740. That's my next job - to look at the advice that you have already been given by Forum members.
