Flower FISHER 1832 Lydbrook
A Harriett FISHER, daughter of Flower FISHER marries a Thomas WORKMAN b1852 (son of Thomas WORKMAN, shoemaker) at St Luke's Church, Dec 28th 1875. [Gloucestershire, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1938].
However, I can't find a trace of her from 1875-1881 (including her death), although I believe I may have found Thomas living back at home with his parents in 1881, aged 29, on the High Street in Cinderford, listed as Married.
Best wishes, Juliette

As you say Thomas is with his parents at the time of the 1881 Census but no sign of Harriet and the above thread suggests Thomas may have remarried as the 1891 Census gives his wife as Jane. There are 2 children born in Gloucestershire and these are the entries from GLOS BMD index:
Child Surname Child Forename Father Surname Mother Surname Mother's Former Name Year District Office Register Entry
WORKMAN Alfred Thomas WORKMAN WORKMAN ROBERTS 1882 Forest of Dean Westbury on Severn, Newnham 48 466
WORKMAN Archibald WORKMAN WORKMAN ROBERTS 1883 Forest of Dean Westbury on Severn, Newnham 50 204
This tells us that the mother is Jane ROBERTS but I am unable to find a marriage between Thomas Workman and Jane so I can only conclude that Thomas and Harriet went their separate ways or possibly Harriet went into a Lunatic Asylum or similar. At the time of the 1881 Census patients in Gloucester Asylum are listed with their initials only but I have not been able to find a suitable entry with the initials H.W. or H.F.
Finally Harriet can be found in the 1871 Census in the Parish of St Luke, Gloucester as follows:
Household schedule number Given Name Surname Relationship Age Estimated Birth Year Gender Birth City Birth County Birth Country
177 G Battagel Head 32 1839 Male Sabiomcells in Austria
177 C Battagel Wife 19 1852 Female Gloucestershire England
177 H Fisher Servant 19 1852 Female Ledbrook, Parish of Beeding

Hi Mike - many thanks for this.
After their first two children Alfred Thomas and Archibald are born, Jane ROBERTS and Thomas WORKMAN move to Abercarn in Wales and go on to have many more children but I can't find any baptism records for any of the children, either those born in Gloucestershire or Wales until one child, Martha Jane WORKMAN (b1889), is baptised in 1902 in Drybrook Church (record on this site). Interestingly, Jane's surname is given in this baptism record - on the original this is clearly Jane Roberts, not Jane Roberta as transcribed, so I wonder if in fact the parents may not have ever married as it seems unusual for her surname to be quoted at baptism - it doesn't happen for others on the pages. Interestingly, Martha was not living at home in 1901 but with her aunt and uncle at Harry Hill, not with her parents, who remained in Wales. She marries Milson WALL in 1914.
My next step, I think, will be to order some of the GRO birth certificates for the children and see if the marital situation becomes clearer. Thanks for your help!
Best wishes,
Juliette
