Joseph Cindrey & Harriet Fisher (General)

by Rob, Sunday, November 12, 2006, 02:01 (6579 days ago)

Many thanks to all from this forum who have emailed me with their help.
Has anyone ever seen any evidence anywhere that Joseph and Harriett were married. I am trying to tie down whether or not my Great grandfather Joseph Cindrey is the same person registered at birth as Joseph Mountjoy Sindrey. My Grandfather birth certificate state a Joseph Cindrey as father and Harriet Fisher (daughter of Flower Fisher) as mother. But I have and can find no evidence of a marriage, therefore I have no name for the father of Joseph to help me verify the line. I know that Joseph was born in Dean and that he was a pit sinker and traveled all around the UK. I suspect that his father was Henry based purely on the order Joseph named his children. Firstly Henry after his father, Joseph after himself and William after I think a brother.
There seems to be a very strong tradition of handing names down on both sides of my family for many generations including the girls. My middle name is Henry by the way after Henry Flower. I have to say though I am grateful not to have ended up with the Flower name, or for that matter on my father side Columbus. That was a close shave!
Any help would be gratefully appreciated,

Many thanks

Rob

Many thanks for your email.

I have to ask though, is your information that Joseph Mountjoy Sindrey married Harriet Fisher based on an assumption because it seems right because of the dates and lack of Joseph Sindrey's in the area. Or is it based on hard evidence such as an entry of marriage that you may have seen somewhere. I think it is the same one for the above reasons but will not really be happy until I find a marriage certificate to confirm Joseph's father's name. I am beginning to think that they never really married.

Hi Rob, My Great Grandfather was also Joseph Cindrey - Pit Sinker.

Apparently, he was known as 'Glouster Joe'. I am not quite sure about the marriage between my great grandad and Harriet Fisher, but they did have at least two children, Henry Flower Cindrey and Joseph Cindrey. Both were born in Monmouthshire but moved with there parents to the Chesterfield area - when I don't exactly know, but it must have been in the late 1800s or early 1900s.

Henry Flower Cindrey was my grandfather and he married Mary Turner. They had 9 chidren of which 2 died in thier infancy. Of the 7 that survived into their adulthood (3 boys and 4 girls), 4 have died, including my Father, William Henry Cindrey. The first born and therefore eldist child is Margret (Mini) Cindrey with a married name of Greaves. She is now 95 years old and recently made a widow. Although a little frail on her legs, she has the mental ability and memory of a professor. My aunte Min has one daughter, margret.

Elizabeth (Betty) Cindrey, now Cheetham by marriage, is the youngest daughter of Henry and Mary Cindrey - John (Johnny) Cindrey is the youngest child and is a very healthy 75 year old. He is married to Olive with one daughter, Anne.

Henry Flower's brother, Joseph, did not marry but lived to a good age and visited my grammar Mary every day of his life until he died.

I am the only grandson of Henry and Mary Cindrey with the surname of Cindrey.

My name is Brian William Cindrey, married to Muriel Harris in 1969 with only one child, a boy to carry-on the name, Andrew Paul Cindrey. He was born in 1983.

As far as I am aware, we are the only remaining Cindreys, however I hope that I am wrong Rob. I would be more than grateful if you would advise me accordingly.

Brian.

Joseph1850, had a sister Emma who is an ancestor of mine. One branch went to Monk Bretton near Barnsley. Joseph died in Chesterfield 1925.
A relation called Emma Little moved to near Manchester in service in 1890's with a sister Lucy later.
She married George Barlow, a widower 1899 and had four daughters. All deceased.
