(continued)

Sarah b1781; ????

Not at all sure, as like John and Richard etc Sarah is a popular BELCHER name in the Severnside areas, but wonder if this COULD be her marriage ? Hempstead is just south of Gloucester down river towards Elmore, and lies right on the Severn.

Name John Ravenhill
Spouse's Name Sarah Belcher
Event Date 11 Jan 1804

===================

Searching Familysearch for the Marriages you gave, I find this one which is a good fit.

Event Place Arlingham,Gloucester,England

LUCKILY the FoD PR database only has nine spelt "Belsher/Bellsher", and none appear relevant to this family.
The bride's name may be Siar etc, I only have the Familysearch transcript to go by, and I gather they can be inaccurate at times.

---

Still on Familysearch I can also find marriage which closely matches the second one you mentioned. Winchcombe is the opposite end of the county from the Forest, the other side of Gloster and Cheltenham up in the Cotswold hills, renowned in the past for the wool trade but not too many obvious links to the Forest of Dean.
Possibly not your ancestors ?

Name John Belcher
Spouse's Name Susanna Trinton
Event Date 18 Jun 1785
Event Place Winchcomb,Gloucester,England

==========

Back to John Belcher who married Hannah in W-o-S in 1758, there are quite a few Burials of "John Belcher" in W-o-S but could this be your man, the age seems a reasonable fit, suggesting a birthdate abt 1730.

Re-searching this forum for prior posts about the above BELCHERs I find descendants to Benjamin b1771 who went to New Zealand, which I guess you probably know of seeing as you're in Australia ?
See http://forum.forest-of-dean.net/index.php?id=22863

A timely reminder to me that it ALWAYS pays to keep searching and researching this forum for prior posts about every family name, place, occupation and so on...; SO much excellent information has already been discussed in the past.

That prior post seems to suggest that my earlier mention of Arlingham, across the Severn from Westbury, may have been correct. These sites may help further in this respect.

Hows that for now Janet, we look forward to your thoughts.
