Finnish ancestry in the Forest of Dean? (General)

by Helenkeenlyside, Monday, April 23, 2018, 11:43 (2413 days ago)

Hello
This is my first posting on here.
I am not from the Forest of Dean, but my grandfather was. In fact his entire family going back many generations were.
Recently my sister had a DNA test done and we found we have Finnish ancestry. It seems, from physical appearance, that it probably comes through my grandfather's line.
So I'm wondering whether-
a) anyone else has found they have Finnish ancestry?
b) has any research been done to show this?
c) are there any records with Finnish names on them?
Family names I've made extensive researches into are-
Morgan
Trigg
Sier/Seier
inc Sier Trigg
Burcher
Tingle
and more I can't remember!
Any help would be gratefully received.
Thank you

Hi
Thank you for your comment.
My Morgan family (I was born a Morgan) were largely from Cinderford. My grandfather was Arthur Morgan, son of Arthur Morgan (son of Samuel Morgan and Mary Burcher) and Margaret Sier Trigg. His mother died after giving birth to him. When he was 4 or 5 his father also died and he was sent to live in an orphanage.
Eventually he moved to the Rhondda valley and lived his life there until he died aged 75 in 1972.
I don't really have any ancient history to tell you as he didn't talk much about his family.

Generation Number 2

2. ARTHUR MORGAN (born before 1860; d about 1902) married about 1881 MARGARET SIER TRIGG (b about 1860; d 29th June 1897, age 37, Littledean). Had issue:

I cannot find the marriages of SAMUEL MORGAN and MARY BURCHER or the marriage of ARTHUR MORGAN to MARGARET SIER TRIGG on the Parish Register searchable data base on this site. You may have different sources of information. If so, can you tell me where you obtained this marriage information? For example you may have the marriage certificates.

Any research I have done has been on Ancestry.co.uk, and Family Search, the Mormon website. I have relied heavily on other people's trees.

Interesting! I have just found a DNA cluster of Finnish matches with Mum. I have no known Finnish ancestry, but two illegitimacy 'holes' in my mother's tree - one in FOD and one in Kidderminster. Several of them go back to the same couple: Emanuel Nyman and Vilhelmina Blomerus, so the link is likely through one or both of their lines. Wondering if there could have been an influx of Finns at some stage to FOD and why?
