Leonard Stanley (General)

by Vernon163, Friday, March 19, 2021, 09:52 (1351 days ago)

Hi,

A number of my early ancestors were baptised at Leonard Stanley.

This Parish does not seem to figure in the database.

Any ideas if these records are in the database undre another Parish, please?

Thanks,

Vernon

Leonard Stanley is not in the database. The parish registers and Bisop`s Transcripts can be viewed on Ancestry, which also has a transcript of the registers,

If you go into Resources and search:

Gloucestershire Marriage Allegations 1747-1847 and Marriage Bonds 1730-1823

Just by putting in a % in the surname and then Leonard Stanley

There are 291 records.

FreeReg has also Leonard Stanley records.

Freereg :

Just search for Leonard as Stanley is also spelt with variations eg Stanly, especially the earlier marriages.

About 40 records Leonard Stanly

Thank you.

I have been looking, in particular, for Edward Haynes, who married Rosamund Clifford (1644 - ) at Frampton on Severn in 1662.

There is a general consensus among others, who are also looking for him, that he was born in the early 1640s (the time of the Civil War), so, it is possible that his baptism record could have been destroyed, like many others.

I think that I have found his father Richard, baptised at Leonard Stanley in 1614, the son of Edward Haynes and Margery Chamberline, who married at Leonard Stanley in 1613.

The name Edward is quite rare among the Haynes family, around that time, so a good possibility that I am correct.

Vernon, as the Groom was a GENT

Search the National Archives

Google: A2a and search for say : HAINES, Frampton on Severn or CLIFFORD

There are lots of 'hits'

inc : 1656

Deeds to Declare uses of a fine (1) Richard CLIFFORD of Buckingham Esq (2) Edward

Gloucestershire Parish Deeds. Part 3 - Parish Deeds. FRETHERNE and SAUL. Deed to Declare uses of a fine (1) Richard CLIFFORD of Buckingham esq. (2) Edward HAYNES of Clifford Inn, London, GENT (3) Giles HAYNES of Frampton on Severn, Gent, and Thomas NORWENT of Framilode.

also searching on National Archives, in 1669 - Rosamund HAYNES wid. married John SYMONDS - yea, both of Frampton. (the licence is on Forest of Dean records. Sometimes HAINES sometimes HAYNES.

During Lockdown, the National Archives - are allowing free access to various Wills etc - which you usually have to be to download.
