Tippins Family Ruardean
William Tippin b1806 m Leticia ?? was my 2nd gt-grandfather, through daughter Margaret b1838 who married John Morgan b1837. Their daughter Melenda married Isaac Jenkins and the family moved up north, to the Yorkshire coalfields.
I have all the relevant censuses, but would welcome any info on William 1806 and would equally be happy to share.
Tippins Family Ruardean
Hi there,
William Tippins' spouse was Letitia (Lettuce) Jenkins. I'm decended from their son Francis. Thanks to another member, I have a really detailed family tree of the Tippins family going back to early 1700's, which I'd be happy to share.
I'm also in Yorkshire, via the coalfields, as are many of the FOD families.

Tippins Family Ruardean
Francis was my great-granduncle, really good to meet someone with ancestors in this line. Leticia, being a Jenkins, may well lead to more of my Jenkins's.......
Will email you directly.
Bob Jenkins.
Tippins Family Ruardean
Another useful piece to add to my jig saw, I wasn't aware of Letticia's surname. My main interest is the Marfell family and will explain the connection; the parents of William Tippins baptised 8.11.1807 who married Letticia Jenkins were William Tippins baptised 10.1.1773 & Sarah Read baptised 20.1.1760, William 1773 parents were William Tippins 1744 & Sarah Wilce 1745. Sarah Wilce being one of the seven children of Thomas Wilce 1707/1773 & Susannah Marfell baptised 17.12.1706.
I was also not aware of the marriage of, or descendants of Margaret Tippins, my 6th cousin 3 times removed and would be very pleased to learn more of this line.
Tippins Family Ruardean
Hi Tippins researchers,
My wife is also descended from William Tippins & Letitia Jenkins. I have been researching the family for many years and have now traced them back to 1648 in Weston under Penyard. Happy to share this with anyone who is interested.

Tippins Family Ruardean
Graham...Sarah Tippins bap.25 Dec 1803 is a sister of William bap. 8 Nov 1807 at Ruardean. Sarah is my wife's ggg grandmother...she married Moses Meek at Hope Mansell in 1823.
Are you able to advise which of the William Tippins, one bap in 1773 and the other in 1775 in Ruardean, according to IGI, is in fact the father of William (jnr), Sarah and the other siblings?
Any other info much appreciated......
Tippins Family Ruardean
Danny,
The two Williams baptised in 1773 and 1775 are first cousins (their fathers were brothers). The one baptised in 1775, the son of Thomas & Sarah, is the father of my William and your Sarah. If you e-mail me directly I can give you more information.

William TIPPINS 1773 & 1775 Ruardean
I have been researching the Tippins family of Ruardean for a number of years and have pieced together just over 70 Tippins/Tippings. This has not been an easy task.
I see that a suggestion has been made that William Tippins 1773 and William Tippins 1775 may be 1st cousins. I would like to suggest that they may even be 2nd cousins?
I have a death for William Tippins 2 Apr 1846 Ruardean - Died Westbury S 11 331 Township of East Dean aged 70 of Dropsy not confirmed by informant Letitia Tippins present at William’s death Ruardean Hill. Found by a researcher in burial register 1846 at St John the Baptist Ruardean Glos Collier in Forest of Dean & Ruardean - This makes William's birth much more likely to be 1775 not 1773.
Also found
In 1841 William Tippins aged 66 (1775?) living in Ruardean Dean Forest with his son Thomas aged 24 Coal miner and next door to (Son) William Tippins aged 25 and son’s wife Letitia aged 25 and their children:William aged 2, Francis aged 5 Sarah aged 12, Eliza aged 10, Jane aged 7 and Margaret aged 4.
I think that William's brother John in 1841 was living next door to William & Letitia and just 2 doors away from William - In 1841 John Tippins aged 50 Coal miner living Ruardean Dean Forest and wife Betsy aged 45 with their children: Lucy aged 22, Isaac aged 15 John aged 12, Tomas aged 9, Elizth aged 7 Sarah aged 4 and Lea aged 2.
William 1775 & John Tippins 1792 parents were Thomas Tippins 1745 - 1805 & Sarah Knight 1745 - 1812 (They had 13 children)
Thomas Tippins 1745 parents were Jonathan Tippins/Tippings 1723 & Jane Collins 1725
William 1773 parents were William Tippins 1744 - 1790 & Sarah Wilce 1745 - 1820 (They had 8 children)
William 1744 parents were William Tippins 1713 & Mary (possibly Hook)
William Tippins 1713 & Jonathan Tippins 1723 parents were Jonathan Tippins abt 1687 & Elizabeth Morgan
My connection is with Sarah Tippins 1848 - 5.3.1896 = William Gazzard 1849 - 1923
Parents of Sarah Tippins 1848 was James Tippins 1811 - 1864 bapt 29.9.1811 Ruardean & Martha James married 15.11.1847 Rhymney Church Monmouth. James Tippins 1811 parents were William Tippins 1775? married 25.10.1799 to Sarah Read 1778
I would be interested to hear any evidence that William Tippins 1773? was married 25.10.1799 to Sarah Read 1778 as I believe it might be William Tippins 1775 - 1846.

William TIPPINS 1773 & 1775 Ruardean
Elizabeth
I have read all this with interest. My involvement here is that Sarah Wilce 1745 who married William Tippins 1744 was the daughter of Thomas Wilce 1707/22Jun1754 and my 2nd cousin 7 times removed Susanna Marfell 1706/14 Mar 1792. I have William Tippins 1773 as married to Sarah Read 1778 on 25 Oct 1799. Sarah being daughter of Francis Read 1730/1783 & Jane Stephens 1738/1807. Francis Read 1730 had 11 siblings including Richard 1743 who married my 6 times great aunt Margaret Meek 1750.
I have William Tippins 1775 in my Family Tree with parents Thomas 1746 & Sarah Knight. He is connected but not related. I have the baptism as 2 Jun 1746 to mother Elizabeth Tippins 1719, in turn daughter of Jonathon Tippins 1687/1756 & Elizabeth Morgan.
I will await developments, in particular any comment from Graham Davison. I am always happy to change my Family Tree to get it right.

William TIPPINS 1773 & 1775 Ruardean
Jim
I have had a reply from Graham which reads: “Hi Elizabeth, I am in total agreement with your findings. The two Williams are indeed second cousins (they share the same great grandparents Jonathan & Elizabeth Tippins. I also agree with your conclusion that it is William (1775) who married Sarah Read.
My wife is descended from William Tippins bapt 8 Nov 1807 at Ruardean, who
married Lettice Jenkins, he is the brother of your James bapt 29 Sept 1811.
My wife`s mother, who died last year aged 89, was a Tippins, she was born on
Ruardean Hill and lived her whole life in the Forest.
I have now found the baptism of Jonathan Tippins at Weston under Penyard, he
was the son of William & Experience, which is an unusual name!! I haven`t
yet found their marriage, bit I think William`s parents were John & Joyce. Happy hunting!
Graham”
Graham attached a transcript of our early Tippins family and said “If you can add any marriage or burial details I would be grateful.”
Since then I have concluded that Thomas Tippins 1745 - 1805 (bapt 2.6.1747) (died aged 60) was a base child of Eliz Tippins 1719 and not a child from Eliz’s brother Jonathan Tippins/Tippings 1723 whose son was Thomas Tippins bapt 27 Sep 1746 - 2 Oct 1746.
William Tippins bapt 22.10.1775 was a Collier and so was his father Thomas Tippins 1745 - 1805. In 1841 William 1775 was living with son Thomas 1817 also a Coal Miner and next door to son William 1807 a Coal Miner and daughter in law Letitia/Lettice 1807 and next door again was John Tippins 1792 Coal Miner and a (brother) of William 1775.
If my conclusions are correct William 1773 (a second cousin to William 1775) may have died young and was not around in 1841. His father William 1744 - 1790 was a shoemaker.
In the transcripts sent by Graham he gives Eliz Tippins/Tippings 1719 marrying Giles Loyker (also known as Gyles Lequire of Newlands) m.11 Jan 1751.
William Tippins abt 1662 - 31 Mar 1707 = Experience abt 1662 - 21 Jun 1716 were the parents of Jonathan 1687 - 1756
John Tippins abt 1637 - burial 23 Apr 1697 = Joyce abt 1637 - burial 1 Feb 1693/4 were the parents of William abt 1662.
Any further evidence would be gratefully received. I have noticed that several Tippins trees on ancestry are preferring the William Tippins 1773 to William Tippins 1775.
