by slowhands :-) @, Saturday, June 25, 2005, 02:38 (7098 days ago) @ Tory Worgan

There is an entry In the UK National Archives :-

Covering dates 1781 Oct. 19
Scope and content Indenture of Lease by William Worgan to Thomas James of certain land in the Parish of Huelsfield [Hewelsfield], Co. Gloucester.
Access conditions Normal Closure before FOI Act: 30 years
Closure status Open Document, Open Description
Held by The National Archives, Kew

might be worth chasing this up in realtion to the "Worgan" roots in St Briavels / Hewlesfield.

http://www.old-maps.co.uk/ co-ords 354400,198760 will centre a view on the old monmument that is roughly to the north of today's Worgans Wood. You can also make out the route of Offas Dyke running through the wood.

The wood is not marked but Black Morgan Wood and James Thorn are !
