Terry Glyn James (reply)

Kia ora Rita

Sorry to hear of your loss.

When we lived in Woodend, North Canterbury a few years ago, we lived in a subdivision established by a James family. One of the lanes was named Lydney Lane, so I assume they named it that for a reason!

I wonder if they are a part of the Forest of Dean mob that has migrated in dribs and drabs to North Canterbury like my FoD ancestors? Do you know of this branch of the James family?

I only met one of them - the widow of one of the James brothers, called Pauline James. We lived not far from her and equidistant on the other side of us in the subdivision was her brother in law (brother of her late husband), but we never met him.

I could contact Pauline for you if you are curious. It is only the James/Lydney Lane coincidence that suggests a connection.

Best wishes, John

Terry Glyn James

Hello from New Zealand
I wanted to acknowledge the passing of a wonderful cousin, who passed last week in Lydney.
Some who do not get Facebook may not know that he has passed. His funeral is at The Forest of Dean Crematorium 4:30pm on Thursday 12th February.

I wanted to acknowledge him as a friend and a wonderful cousin who helped me with our family tree. Plus he took me around the Forest of Dean when I visited from New Zealand.

He will be missed very much by myself and I gather a heck of a lot of people including his family of course.

R.I.P. Terry and yes I am still carrying the torch to find our lost relatives. And with the help of Graham (who is the only one left to help me). DNA being tested so hopefully that will help in all directions. Go with much love and sadness cuz (you were the first one to call me that and it meant so much). Rita James xxx

Duberley/Gypsy Connection (reply)

Hi,
I can say that the Duberley relatives/ancestors I have looked at all link to Ruardean. I haven't been able to work out where the name first came to there from. Unless you are from a noble family, records are virtually non-existent pre about 1650ish in the area I was interested in. If I was forced to guess, I'd put my money on the name originally being French.

There are other Duberleys out there. The nearest geographically live in the Ross area, and there was a family in Monmouth, some of whom made clocks. A Lady Fanny Duberley wrote a famous book, but I'd say her husband was no relation to the Duberleys I looked at.

All the best

Turner family Uley Gloucestershire -> Australia (reply)

Hello
yes this information is Correct - thank you, for your understanding and patience...
I know how easy it is to jump on the band wagon, with excitement when we find information that is linked to our ancestors (which I have done often, only to be corrected or for me sadly realise I had the wrong information) My concern mostly is for our next generation and the next that I (we) get it right...The information that has been passed down throughout generations was our Turner Family were all farmers, very religious and interestingly they could read and write...
Another interesting note: is the Turner family arrived in Australia with their friends 'Wooden Family' and its interesting to note they all rode to a place in the country called Junee NSW, after reading an article in a newspaper (that had been wrapped around their lunch where they were working on a farm near Sydney), advertising land lots were being allocated to Settlers in NSW. The oldest brothers with their friends the Wooden brothers all road to checkout the land then road many miles if I remember correctly it took about 6 months their and back to collect the rest of the family and then headed back to Junee where they lived and worked their farm for many years.
Right now we shall keep moving forward and keep searching for more family tree information
kind regards
jan Munro

Francis KEAR 1850 -1929 Oldcroft (reply)

Thank you. The one I am looking at mother was called Hatton. It is the years between 1871-1875 that I am stuck on. I could not find a census record with him on it. There is a lot of confusion on family trees, especially mine as a lot of my James family intermarried with Kears and Parrys. I have a strong 204Cm DNA match with this line which I am unable to verify.

Francis Kear 1850

I am trying to find out about Francis Kear born 1850 in Oldcroft, Gloucestershire. His parents were William Kear 1817 and Eliza Hatton 1816. I know he married Elizabeth James. I am interested in his life before that, particularly in the years 1874/75. Any help much appreciated.

Turner family Ruardean (reply)

Hello
in response to your reply to my previous post...
I appreciate the effort you have taken to post your information in regards our Turner Family Tree, but I am interested to know how you came up with these names for our Turner Family Tree? I have been researching our Family tree for many years now also we have a Family Tree Book that was published back in 1995 and I would like to bring to your attention that NONE of the names you have added, do not match with our Turner family and I might add that all our Turner family lived in Uley, North Nibley, Stroud and Cam, area, Gloucestershire UK.
I personally believe the details you have added are incorrect but saying that, I always stand to be corrected unless proven otherwise...
I am asking that the information, you have displayed be removed unless you can prove otherwise...
I await your reply and trust you understand as our information must be correct for future generations.
regards

Looking for Charles Jesse Davis, or Charles Jesse Davis

Above child born to Charles and Lucy Davis (nee Clarke). Charles was from Maisemore and Lucy from Shoreditch in London.

This child was born in 1872 and fellow searchers believe he died before 1876 as he was not on the ship's manifest when the family immigrated to South Australia.

I have spent hours searching the UK BDM to find either his birth or death. We know of his existence because he was referenced on both his parents' death certificates.

The family moved between London and Gloucester before finally moving to Australia. I am wondering if anyone might have an idea of where I could go to search further for this little boy.

Kind regards
Jenny
