a "George Edwin" born 6 months or so before Tryphena's marriage to Edwin Brain, brought up by grandmother Emma ? - needs some more work but interesting :-)

I have found the death of Edwin/Edward Brain. He was registered under the name Edwin, which was his baptism name. He died in 1898 age 54 Q2 Vol 9c page 101 Registered in Barnsley Yorkshire.

I also found Jonas in 1901, which gave me another surprise. Must be one of those lucky days.

In 1901 Jonas Brain age 12 and his brother Ernest age 17(Coal Worker) are living with George Good and his family. George was born in Gloucestershire and his wife in Wales. The address they are living at is in Monk Bretton Yorkshire.
Now comes the surprise. George states that they two lads are his half brothers!!!!!
Jonas and Ernest Brain's mother Tryphena's maiden name was Goode. I wonder if George is actually her son?

Well gentleman, you have found what I asked for and more. The above James Brain is only one of several Policemen in our tree, must be such a law abiding family.
Now, wait for this one.
Not being able as yet to find Edwin/Edward Brain in 1901 after the death of his wife Tryphena, I tried for the youngest child Jonas. What a surprise I got.
Jonas Brain age 24, birth year abt 1890. Born in parish Carlton Yorkshire.
Regiment name Y&L (I can only presume this to be Yorkshire Light Infantry but more than likely wrong as I am not conversant with millitary jargan)
Doc year 1914 Number of images 33 1914 to 1920
AND, his enrolment record is shown, a bit burnt but readable.
This is the first time I have ever managed to find a service record, and I was not even looking for it.
This must be of interest to anyone researching the Brain family or WW1 enthusiasts. I am willing to go halves, half Yorkshire and half Forest of Dean for Jonas's birthright. I wonder if there is anyone out there who knows what happended to him?

Thank you very much to you both. I did not know about this particular northern migration until I saw the address on the census. It would seem that a lot of our so called "Yorkshire" pit villages were populated by the Foresters. I believe a lot of people in the areas would be suprised to find that their ancestors were from the Forest and not Yorkshire. Good job they all learned our language. Oh, and by the way, I have now lost Edwin/Edward's twin brother. I wonder if he arrived here as well.

Benjamin Brain born abt 1809 and his wife Elizabeth (nee Meek) had twin sons James and Edwin Brain born 1844. Working on Edwin first.
I have his baptism record and his marriage to Tryphena Goode.
When I tried to find them on the 1871 census the only Tryphena Brain I could find was one married to an EDWARD, not EDWIN. This could of course have been an error when the census was taken. This partucular couple were Edward age 28 born abt 1843 East Dean and Tryphena age 26 born abt 1845 East Dean.
The couple had children and are living in Yorkshire in 1871. Could anyone tell me if this is the correct couple?
