Hello Chris,
Thank you very much for this information. Clearly I have ventured off on the wrong path somewhere. Based on ealier research which I subsequently abandoned I think I have the wrong Mary Thurston. My Mary THURSTON definitely married Edward Godsell in Dymock on 21 August 1759. The entry recorded her surname as THURSHAN but a correction at the foot of the page notes this may be an incorrect spelling of THURSTON. The IGI lists a Mary Thurshan baptism in Dymock around 1730 but I have been unable to corroborate this.
I will start again on this one.

Joseph THURSTON and Harriet LIES

There are two entries in the IGI for the baptism of a Mary Thurston, daughter of Joseph and Harriet, on the 16th February, in Newent. The first gives the year as 1740 (nee Lies), and the second gives the year as 1840 (nee Sier). The first record is an error. The IGI lists Joseph as born 1807 and his marriage to Harriet Sier in the year 1832.
