Many thanks again but

I ordered a marriage certificate from Monmouthshire records some time ago giving this reference but received a reply saying that the Caroline listed did not marry a William Jones.

Thanks for the information about a Caroline Powell at Parkend married in !857.
This seems to be a different one. The C.P. I was asking about was still Caroline Powell on the 1861 Census.

Gran and Mam were strong Baptists and I believe Gran went to Summerhill and/or Duckpool Road Baptist Chapels in Maindee,Newport so probably William and Caroline did also.

Many thanks for the detailed reply.
The contender you name is also my chief'suspect' among the Monmouthshire Carolines.
I am hoping to find the details of her marriage including father's name to confirm or correct this. Having failed with BMD lists I thought there might be some local Forest area records that might help.
My older brother knew Caroline and called her 'More Gran' her daughter Alice being 'Gran'.I remember Gran.

Marriage of William Jones and Caroline Powell ?1860s

William and Caroline Jones (nee Powell) were my great grandparents. I have been searching for years for their marriage details.Caroline was born in Monmouthshire and their first child, my grandmother was born in Newport in 1870.William was born in Alvington and was a miner living there on 1861 census.

Today I have found on that census a Caroline Powell the right age and born in Mon. working at Fountain Inn, Parkend.

It seems likely they were married somewhere locally in the 1860s.

I would be most grateful for any help or suggestions that might help me find a record of the marriage which would tell me who Caroline's parents were.
