Carol, Correction , Cornelius Brain born 1848 my G/Grand father married Maria Hatton. His Father John Brain born 1824 married Sarah Bennett and his father Cornelius Brain born 1800 married Ann Brain. Dave

Hello Carol, Cornelius Brain, a farmer, had the farm from 1841 to 1861. according to the census. My aunt said her mother Ethel Fanny Brain nee Hatton, my Grand mother was brought up on a farm. Cornelius Brain was her G/Grand father, but she was not born till 1882, so it was not that farm on less John Mansell was some relation. Ethels father was Cornelius Brain who married Sarah Bennett. The family moved to Cheshire around 1903, thats were I come in. If you could E-mail the map of the farm I would be grateful, has I forgot to say Cornelius who had the farm, Spingfield was my G/G/G/Grand father born in 1800. Thanks again for the info. Yes, it was a farm. It is just to the west of the crossroads at the top of the Hawthorns in Drybrook.

Just along the road there is a turn to Hope Mansell. The building at the junction is Hill Farm. The next is now called Hillcroft. It used to be Springfield. I obtained a copy of a map from Cinderford Library which shows it as Springfield.

A John Marfell, farmer, was living there in 1871. He was the son of Cornelius Marfell. Cornelius Marfell is a direct ancestor of mine.

May I ask about your interest in Springfield?
