I have a correction to my previous posting. A family tree contact has pointed out that I have two William Matthews born around the same time abt 1790, one married to Hester Harris, one married to Esther Dubberley. These were arrived at as parents of (A) Ann Matthews born 1817 who married John Trigg, (B) Joseph 1814 who married Amelia Simmonds, Ephraim 1831 who married Elizabeth Marfell & Thomas 1833 who married Ellen Marfell. I have now merged these families as one - William Matthews & Esther Duberley married 23 Aug 1813 English Bicknor. I am not sure where the surname Harris came from except that Esther Dubberley's mother was Betty Harris.

I have a Joseph Matthews baptised 3 April 1814 in my Family Tree. Could this be the Joseph in question ? He was the son of William Matthews and Hester Harris. His brother Ephraim Matthews 1831 married my Great Great Great Aunt Elizabeth Marfell 1828, daughter of Cornelius Marfell & Tamar Herbert.His other brother Thomas 1833 married Elizabeth Marfell's sister Ellen 1826. I have both marriage certificates.

William Matthews died before 1851 and Hester remarried to John Wilce born 1797. In 1851 Ephraim & Thomas Matthews were with stepfather John Wilce :

If this is the marriage, this could be the 12 year old Amelia Simmonds who in 1826 rescued my umpteenth x great auntie Henrietta Pewtner from being assaulted by hitting the guy over the head with his shoes. There is a pdf about the incident on the site. Hope it is as I've always wanted to thank her descendants for a job well done!
