it's cyrilla your cousin here (aunty marg's daughter)she is visiting at the moment and we stumbled onto this site.
to answer your question alfred was born in bristol july 27th 1901,his father, a carpenter, died in his mid 20's, his mother brought him and his brother,reginald, to the forest to housekeep for someone in ruardean.
He was a foreman for a firm putting in mains water in dorset not sure when but before living at the royal oak (the bag o nails).
He was landlord of the unicorn (and we think still working for water firm) in coleford when he married winifred lane (b.19/09/1911)
2 children born there-sam and tony.
He left water firm and unicorn pub to move to the pludds to work in the coal mine and run, with winifred, the royal oak. 2 more children born-margaret and graham (jo),your dad.

in its ususal interpretation relates to construction of infrastructure such as road, sewerage, water treatment, hospitals etc

So he probably was a man in charge of a gang of contruction labourers.

Yes the Royal Oak was known as the Bag'o'nails

It was also under a Brewery from Wickwar , north of Bristol, and had a Jones landlord around 1905....

Hello Good evening

Please could anyone tell me any information about my grandfather, i am looking for his birth details or his marriage details,

His full name is above, he was my fathers father (Graham Charles Jones) he was married to Winifred Jones and they lived at the Royal Oak inn. (was this the Bag o Nails?)

I am new to my family tree and have searched and searched but the surname certainly doesn't help!! i think he was born circa 1905?
