Newland records (reply)

Thanks for steer.

Reading Grahams note answers some of the problems I have with the pre 1800 records.

The period I am particularly interested in covers the period between 1809 and 1825 when I believe believe we used copies of missing registers to transcribe to our records.

We have a number of BMDs for Newland including the the period 1809 to 1825. I remain surprised that any potential children of Peter and Esther do not appear in these transcripts.

Between 1850 and 1900 the family became Non Conformists. Checking Gloucester Archieves I note some Non Conformists are active between 1800 and 1825. Although Peter and Esther are not named as Non Conformists in the Gloucester Archieves catalogue, would it be worth while investigating this avenue?

Other issues which need ruling out are Prison and army (Napoleonic wars?)

I intend to visit Gloucester Archieves within the next two weeks and would appreciate your thoughts on further research areas.

Regards

Tony Jenkins

this might help explain the condition of Newland records and a possible explanation for "gaps"

Hi

I have picked up Peters and Esthers family in Clerawell/Newland

On the 1851 census Peter and Esther were living in Clerawell I guess close to the Wynmondam Arms.

Regards

Peter Jenkins 1778 - 1852

My 4xGGrandfather married Esther in 1802 They had four sons William b 1802. James b 1805 and Richard b 1809.

I can find no other children until the baptism of Esther in 1825.

Can anyone suggest why their are no baptism records for children of Peter and Esther between 1805 and 1825.

Regards
