Chepstow Workhouse (reply)

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the reply.
I asked because Fanny Cook, one of my ancesters gave birth to a son John in The Lydney Union Workhouse in 1875 and although it says it was Chepstow it doesn`t say where and I was curious.
Thanks again,
Margaret

In 1836 Lydney and Aylburton were included in the Chepstow poor- law union. (fn. 21) In 1867 a Lydney highway board was established covering all the Gloucestershire parishes in the union except St. Briavels, (fn. 22) and in 1894 the Gloucestershire parishes of the union were formed into the Lydney rural district.

Chepstow Workhouse (reply)

Chepstow Union workhouse was erected in 1838 at the north side of Mounton Road to the south-west of Chepstow. More info on:

http://www.workhouses.org.uk/index.html?Chepstow/Chepstow.shtml

Not sure if Lydney was separate, although there were people from Lydney in the Chepstow Workhouse. I'm sure someone will know!
