Robert and Anna SHORNEY Marriage 1869 (reply)

Hi Mary et al,

Mary - I Emailed you a while ago under separate cover (Pierre04) but have since registered, as you can see. I am a direct descendant of Robert and his son Albert.

All/Any - is there anywhere that all the great stuff about R and H Shorney is shown diagramatically. I'm new to all this and can't get my head round your posts yet, particularly the data I assume to be lifts from Census?

Absolutely fantistic site and work - many thanks to all.

Robert and Anna SHORNEY Marriage 1869 (reply)

Thanks for that - I've just checked the parish records again and you could be right, the first one was a "private baptism". Yes, strange the change of name
but as the parents were not living together I suppose it's possible that he didn't approve of the name and changed it at the second baptism.

yes its possible - a sick child has a private baptism and then when he survives has a "public " baptism.

what is a surprise is the change of name , but as I often type - keep an open mind :-)

That crossed my mind too! Unless there is a Rob & Hannah as well as a Rob & Anna. Perhaps they changed their minds and took him to a different church to be re-christened. I can't find a birth reg. for the other little chap.

Robert and Anna Shorney

Can someone help me with this puzzle. The 1871 census shows Anna Shorney living with her parents Edward and Sarah Jones. The 1881 Census has her and her son Albert living with them.

Parish records show that Albert John was born to Robert and Anna Shorney on 27th April 1871 and baptised at Chepstow Beulah Independent on 28th May 1871. HOWEVER, there is also a son, William Frank who was baptised at Tutshill on 5th May 1871 whose parents are Robert and Anna Shorney. On both records Robert's occupation is "baker", his address is Bristol on William Franks but no address recorded on Alberts.

My initial guess was that the boys were twins and perhaps William was baptised three weeks before Albert because he was not going to live. But.............
there is no record of a burial for William. There was no marriage between Robert and Anna in this area either - perhaps they met and married in Bristol?

Thanks. Isn't this a brilliant site, if only all Parish Records were so easily accessible.
Mary
