Inwood Farm, Newland (reply)

Inwood Farm is just south of Scatterford Farm, it stands at the northern end of Rookery Lane, leading up from Stowe. 1861 Newland District 6 seems to cover the area west of Clearwell from Stowe up to Scatterford, however the enumerator has recorded many addresses as simply "private".

a lane called French way in 1422 (later French Lane) which provided a more direct way from Lower Redbrook hamlet by climbing over Astridge and meeting the Valley brook road at the south-west corner of Newland village, (fn. 87) and the principal route from St. Briavels, called Inwood Lane (later Rookery Lane), running from Stowe across the high plateau via Inwood Farm.

In the early 17th century much of the parish outside the Clearwell estate was held as substantial freehold farms, often of 100 a. or more. They included Upper and Lower Redbrook farms, (fn. 84) Inwood farm owned by the Sled family,

1861 Census for Newland

Could anyone tell me if Enumeration District No. 1 has been left off Ancestries index for the 1861 census. Enumeration districts 2 to 8 seem to have been done.

I am looking for a ancestor who was having children baptised in Newland Circa 1858 to 1864, saying they were from Inwood, I cannot find the family I am looking for and no mention of Inwood in the available descriptions for the enumeration districts 2 to 8.

Thanks for any help

Ken Edwards
