Forest of Dean Parish Map (Google) (reply)

I have enlarged the Forest of Dean Parish Map (Google) we have on the website to make it easier to view and see which parishes are located close to each other.

From the map page you can now also find out the distance between any two parishes by entering the parish names in the from and to boxes.

You can access the map from the show map link on the Parish Records search page or directly by going to:

Calculating distances - Parish Locator on this site (reply)

Parish locator programme is also linked to via this website. Go to Resources and Links option from home page and look under Towns and Villages tab.

I agree it is useful and helps to identify which church records are close enough to look at it if your ancestors dont appear in the most obvious parish.

Calculating distances (reply)

Hi Sylvia

Try a little programme that you can download called Parloc, short for Parish Locator. A very useful little programme. I use it a lot. It gives 30 miles from Coleford to Caerphilly. It will also give you parishes within a particular radius from a stated place i.e. find parishes within 6 miles from Coleford. It helps a lot when searching for "lost " rellies who may have strayed locally.

Just type Parloc into Google and follow the directions.

Bye
Dawn

Calculating distances

Hi Is there a web-site that tells you distances ,in miles between two places?
My grandfather Hubert POWELL is said to have walked from Coleford(where he was born in1855)to Newbridge Monmouthshire(now called Caerphilly).I found an entry in the electoral rolls for Newbridge which shows his brother Benjamin lodging with a family in 1812 so I guess they came together.
