Charles Rowland NASH 1869 Westbury o Severn (reply)

Actually, I misspoke in my previous post. I meant to say that we have a Charles R Nash, born about 1870, as the son of CAROLINE Nash, daughter of William and Sarah--NOT the son of Clara, who was Caroline's daughter.

I believe that the only records we have are census records, which do not necessarily specify the "R" as "Rowland." There could be two different Charles R Nashes born abt 1870.

Charles Rowland NASH 1869 Westbury o Severn (reply)

These are what we call "Jenkins Nashes," descdended from freeminer William Nash (1806-1850) and Sarah Jenkins (1813-?, who apparently remarried and became Sarah Jones according to the census data, as she was living with her children from her first marriage--this was news to me). Charles Rowland Nash is the son of Clara Nash, daughter of William and Sarah. Sarah and her young children were left paupers after William died of a disease of the lungs in 1850, likely from working in the coal and iron mines.

William and Sarah are my ggg-grandparents via their son Jeremiah. A group of Nashes from around the world have traced our shared heritage back to a pair of brothers, John Nash (c1776-1855, father of William) and Richard Nash (c1778-1864), who had two other brothers, Thomas and Samuel (no known descendents).

We believe that the parents of these brothers were either Thomas Nash (c1748) & Ann Harper (c1751, married 14-May-1768 Newland) or Richard Nash (c1746) & Mary Harrison (c1749, married 28-Sep-1767 Newland), but we do not have have the proof we need to solve this mystery.

Over the last three years, the descendents of brothers John and Richard, and several other lines of Forest Nashes, have come together on the "Nash Families of the Forest of Dean" family history forum on Yahoo Groups. All Nash descendents are invited to join us at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nash_fod/ .

Coincidentally, just last weekend while I was in the UK on business, we came together for the first time for an extended Nash family reunion at Sling, site of Old Sling Pit Iron Mine, where so many of our Nashes worked. 0ur common ancestor William Nash (1806-1850) and his brother leased Old Sling Pit in 1841 (see http://www.nashfamilyhistory.com/slingpittransfers.htm ).

Much more information on our "Jenkins Nashes" (so called to help us keep the various lines straight!) can be found on Toni Nash's excellent at http://www.nashfamilyhistory.com/nashnewpage.htm and in the archives of our Yahoo group.

Best wishes,
