Henry Probert - Born 1823 - Lydbrook (reply)

Thanks for the info from the 1861 census. The person who registered my grandfather's death in 1919 was his brother William H who gave his address as Tudorville House, Ross. I wonder whether that means another branch of the family had moved to Ross.
The Thomas Probert Will could well be our gt gt grandfather. In 1841 his widow Elizabeth was living in Lydbrook with children Thomas, William, Henry & Sarah.

I have my mother's old photo albums & it would be interesting to know whether any of the people in the photos were Probert relatives. There are christian names under some of the photos but not surnames.

Henry Probert - Born 1823 - Lydbrook (reply)

Thanks for posting the info you had. Looks like we are the same family. Your Grandfather Frederick would have been a brother of my Grandfather Henry Milson Probert (1868-1925). I do not know if my mother new of any Uncles or Aunts on her fathers side but I do not recall her mentioning anyone and regretfully I never asked - the interest only came about after her death.

Have missing children on 1861 Wales Census.

Davey??? Kishman - Servant

For interest - Probert Brothers - Butchers had shops at 11 High Street (now Andy Callwood) my uncles William Milson and Henry Albert were born there and 1 Broad Street (now Going Places) where my mother was born. At some stage they moved to Merrydale Farm where they farmed (now a housing development) and this is where my Grandfather died in 1925.

The Thomas Probert Will that has been posted seems to relate to whom would be our GtGtGrandfather but would like to confirm if a connection with William Probert who was involved in the Elstree murder and later hanged for horse theft?

Would be happy to here from anyone interested.

Henry Probert - Born 1823 - Lydbrook (reply)

Henry and Mary Ann Probert (nee Perkins) were my great grandparents. They were married at Mathern on 8th October 1846.According to the marriage certificate Henry was then living at Shirenewton.
The following information I have gleaned from census returns.
1851 farming at Woolaston, 2 children Elizabeth & Mary.
1861 at Osbaston. Just Henry & Mary, don't know where the children were.
1871 Osbaston, Henry & Mary plus children Mary 20, Sarah 15, William 13, Frederick 8, Arthur 6, Edwin 4, Henry M 3.
1881 White Swan Hotel, Agincourt Square, Monmouth. Henry, out of business farmer, wife mary. Daughters Elizabeth, hotel keeper, Sarah, barmaid, sons Edwin & Henry scholars.
1891 Station Road Ross. Henry & Mary plus daughter Elizabeth & son Edwin.
Mary Ann died 17th Jan 1895 & Henry 27th Aug 1895.
On 1901 census I found Elizabeth at Ashfield Park letting apartments & alsoliving there her brother Edward(Edwin?).
My grandfather was Frederick born 28th Nov 1861 married Ada in Burford 1908 & they farmed at Arbour Hill, Ross. Frederick died 23rd Feb 1919. He left a widow & 2 daughters, Mary Louise born 1910 & Annie Elizabeth (my mother)born 1912.

Henry Probert - Born 1823 - Lydbrook (reply)

I knew a Harry Probert in the 1950's when he ran Westons Garage at Much Marcle. A kind friendly man who helped me, then little more than a boy, to get my old motor cycle going. I think Harry would have been born in about 1900.

Henry PROBERT - circa 1820 - 1895 - Lydbrook (reply)

Thanks slowhands for the info - it would seem that I have been on the right track with my family Probert.

I had been confused with Henry's age on the 1841 census but realised that ages were rounded off. A copy of his marriage certificate states that he was 24 in 1846.

Henry Probert - Born 1823 - Lydbrook

This is my first posting to this site and have been interested in the threads over the last few days relating to 'The Priory' and 'Frederick Probert drawing' the inquest on William and Thomas Proberts Will. As Probert was my mothers maiden name. I have been gathering info on the family and seeing these threads I decided to post something myself.

My Grandfather was Henry Milson Probert born 1868 Osbaston Mon. He married a Mary Jane Ritching/Riching in 1898 Cardiff. They lived in Ross on Wye where my mother was born and he died in 1925 and is buried in St Marys church. My Grandmother died 1950 in Ross.

His father was Henry Probert born 1823 in Lydbrook. He married a Mary Ann Perkins in 1846 - Parish of Matherne Mon.

His father (stated on copy of marriage cert) was a Thomas Probert and I believe he married an Elizabeth Ambrey in 1805 English Bicknor.

My research so far has mostly been on the internet via Census and this site - I live on the Wirral but at some stage I hope to make a visit to the Forest to confirm my findings.

Does anyone think there might be some family connection with the Proberts from the threads? A newbie to all this so hope posting reads ok.
