This does sound as if slowhands is right (as usual!) if daughter was Gertrude Ellen, as Itton register seems to have following baptisms for children born to John and Ellen Temperance Maria of Rhydybeddw (farmer):
30 March 1893 Florence Annie
19 March 1895 Gertrude Allen
29 September 1896 Mabel Kate
31 March 1899 Edith Gladys

I think John Brown might have married Ellen in June Quarter 1888 - Newport Mon.
Her maiden name would of been Hunt.

I was also after the maiden name of Ellen and the date of Marriage.

I think they had a Daughter called Gertrude(Ellen)Brown- DOB 1895 Itton, Momouthshire.
