<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I notice there are some women named as running the inn. You might be interested to know that in Germaine Greer's book about Shakespeare's wife she states that brewing was very much a women's profession. Though brewing and running an inn do not always go together it's interesting to see the names of women particularly the ones from the earliest years.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I have a Martha Barrow bap 2 March 1620 at Awre.</p>
<p>Early days in my project on Awre and Blakeney, but this is the best guess I have on Martha's family:</p>
<p>1 Martha Barrow. Born on 2 Mar 1620 in Awre, Gloucestershire, England.</p>
<p>2 Edmond Barrow Esquire. Born  bef 1594. Occupation: Residence: of giner[?].</p>
<p>4 Richard Barrow. Born  abt 1550.</p>
<p>8 Edward/Edmund Barrow. Born  abt 1509. Edward/Edmund died in Awre, Gloucestershire, England on 22 Aug 1570, he was 61. Occupation: Gent, Mentioned in the History of Awre.</p>
<p>16 Richard Barrow. Born  bef 1480. Richard died in Awre, Gloucester in 1563, he was 83. Occupation: Mentioned in the History of Awre. 1547.</p>
<p> bef 1500 when Richard was 20, he married Joane Barrow.</p>
<p>17 Joane Barrow.</p>
<p>32 John Barrow. Born  abt 1460. Occupation: Lord of Blakeney Manor 1508. Mentioned in the History of Awre. 1495.</p>
<p> abt 1480 when John was 20, he married Agnes Haresfield.</p>
<p>33 Agnes Haresfield. Born  abt 1460. Occupation: Mentioned in the History of Awre.</p>
<p>64 Walter Barrow. Born  bef 1440. Walter died  bef 1495, he was 55. Occupation: Mentioned in History of Awre 1495.</p>

<blockquote><blockquote><blockquote><blockquote><blockquote><blockquote><blockquote><blockquote><blockquote><blockquote></blockquote></blockquote></blockquote></blockquote></blockquote></blockquote></blockquote></blockquote></blockquote></blockquote><p><em>The oldest surviving house in Blakeney, the former Swan inn, stands east of<br />
 Church Square at the foot of Swan Lane, which until 1831 was the course <br />
of the main road. (fn. 71) The building, which dates from the 16th century, <br />
has a main block and cross wing and is partly of exposed timber framing; <br />
it was restored c. 1985. (fn. 72) It was an inn in 1645 (fn. 73) and until the <br />
1870s when it became a temperance hotel; it apparently closed in the <br />
early 20th century. (fn. 74)</em></p>
